On a Remington 1100 20 gauge, is the notch around the magazine tube supposed to hold the barrel seal O-ring in place? Just curious since mine doesn't and I'm wondering if the O-rings I have are for a 12 gauge??

If your 1100 20 is one of the older standard frame models, then the 12 ga “o” ring is correct. If it is an “LT” Model then it uses a smaller “o” ring

If I recall , my 12 takes an .021 viton and the LT 20 takes an .019 both available at your local hardware store. Hope this helps

12 gauge uses a #21 Viton O ring, 15/16" ID; 20 gauge LW/LT uses a #19, 13/16" ID. The notch should loosely fit the O ring. If it slides forward, the barrel gas ring will slide it back into position. If it slides bac, the gas piston will slide it back into position. If you had a 12 gauge O ring the gas piston would likely jam before it got into proper position.

Thank you, it’s good to now know the proper operation.

I am using the 019 for the 20 gauge.

I have Read that the #018 fits the 28 & 410. I have neither of these gauges, so you may want to verify that’s in fact the correct size.
