This is my third post here. Thank you for allowing me to partake of your conversation.

A question for the collective intelligence of the forum: If you had $16,000 to buy a 20ga. over and under for, mostly, upland hunting (chukars, doves, quail, pheasant...) and for an occasional sporting clays round or two, what shotgun would you buy?

Please no solid answers like an 870 and a half million rounds and so on (which would make a lot of sense). I’m thinking high-grade Beretta, Krieghoff, Merkel, Guerini, Zoli, Perazzi, AYA, etc., etc.

Thank you in advance for your response.

If I were willing to spend 16K on a field gun, it would be a Perazzi. What few I have handled, have been lovely.

K20 or Perazzi, probably K20. For 16k you might be able to get a std grade and a 2nd set of barrels so you could do 20/28 or 20/410

I'd forgo the engraving, but I'd be all over the gun.
I've shot one a couple of times, and if I could afford it I'd own one.

Depends on what you are looking for high volume, dependable, well engineered or impressively pretty. If pretty - - -

While all are good choices, I would probably opt for a matched pair of AYAs with 30 (or 75cm) barrels chokes IC/IM

I'd personally spend $4K each on 12, 16, 20 and 28 O/Us

Have a std grade k20 parcours and should be getting mx20 delivered this spring/early summer. Lots to like about the k gun but I’m not terribly consistent with it. Won't be keeping both as that's just too much for me to sit on.

Hoping custom spec mx20 proves a better fit. Both are base models so considerably less than $16k. If I had to spend 16 I’d do a second set of barrels.

Spending that kind of money you should be planning on having the gun fitted to you.
Not knowing your taste, it is hard to advise.
I've had the money in a "mad money" account but never bought a gun that expensive.

I wouldn’t know if I was getting ripped off at the $16,000 level since I’m not familiar with anything at that price but this answer works for me. I’d skip the 16 maybe and get a .410 though.

I'm partial to Blasers but for your proposed use, I might go K-20 Parcours too.

Agree with both. For a hunting gun I’d get something that fits and is “nice” but is not ostentatious. Having various gages would allow you to pick and choose depending on what you are hunting. I’d skip the 16 too, and likely the 12, and slip in a 410 for skeet fun. 5-6k buys you a pretty nice embellished hunting OU.

Also, way easier to re-sell a $4K gun than a $16K one (and you could sell parts of your collection instead of all or none). For me, I'd be WAY too scared to take a $16K gun in the field too, but I'm not that rich either!

But if you do get a $16K gun, post some pics!

Since I already had nice 12 gauge, and 20 gauge guns, both SxS and O/U - I bought a 16 gauge Over / Under, just because I could.

If I was really going to buy a $16K gun, I would be travelling to the places where I could handle the candidate guns, and form my opinions there.
I think that asking random internet people to recommend $16K guns is purely entertainment.

For that kind of investment you need to consider future resale value. In other words, when this thing becomes part of your estate it should have held its value or have appreciated.

Merkel --yuck. East German trash.

AyA --great but you could get a nice #2 12 and 28 for 16,000.

Krieghoff- OK but you get what they sell and hope to make it fit.

Perazzi--purrrrrfect. You can get one hand made to your specs. I have bought off-the-shelf and I have custom ordered (2x) . You won't be sorry.

Blaser F3 with 3 28 inch barrels. You pick the gauges. If you don’t add weight like we do with the sporting guns it’s not overly heavy.
