My 9 year old is wanting to give trap a try. I have my 870 20 gauge that was given to me by my father as my first gun. I do not want to cut the original stock down, however I am not having any luck finding a shorter stock for the gun. Any site members happen to have a youth or previously shortened stock (around 12-13 inches lop) that the would be willing to sell?

Is the gun an 870 Express or a Wingmaster? If it is a Wingmaster is it a lightweight or a standard weight?

If you do not know if it is a lightweight or a standard weight, what is the last letter in the serial number?

I may be able to help depending on the gun.

It is an 870 express and as far as I know it is a standard weight. Last letter in the serial is U. We are leaving shortly for a camping trip so if anyone is able to help it may be later this week before I can get back to you.

The express is on a 20 ga sized frame so a lightweight sized frame. Send me a private message when you get back.

Last time I checked Amazon had synthetic black 12” for around $60.00. (Hogue, 870 20 gauge.)

Some folks aren’t going to like this, but a 20 gauge 870 pump with a cut down stock is going to kick like a mule. Unless you can find extremely low velocity shells or can reload to 3/4 ounce, consider buying a youth semi auto. I hate to see kids get the snot kicked out of them by shooting the wrong gun. A lot quit and never come back.

Thank you to those willing to help out. We ran by Gamaliel and luckily they had a youth sx4 in 20 gauge on hand. We brought it home and he used it tonight in trap practice. First time on the line and did very well with the gun. Broke more clays that I thought he would and after 50 shots his shoulder wasn't even red or marked up.
