Our local shooting park club had its annual fund raising dinner last night. We had rocky mountain oysters and chicken strips with all the trimming. If you sponsored a table, which my wife and I did , you got 8 tickets and a choice of several firearms including rifles ,shotguns, and pistols. We live in a small town of 6000 and at least 1000-1500 people attended.
There was an auction of rifles, shotguns, and pistols and accessories, that went for insanely high prices double or triple their value. People were very generous. Boxes of .223 and 9mm sold for $150. There was a FFL dealer on site to handle the gun transactions. There was a special auction for a AR 22 caliber open to kids only,it went for $2000.Most of the items sold were donations from local businesses and some gun manufactures.
All in all it was a great night for the club and everyone had a good time, and oh yeah the auction started after everyone had plenty of beer as it was included in the price of a ticket.
Everything started after the Pledge of Allegiance was given.I can't remember the last time I heard the Pledge.
I just wish there was a NY Times reporter was there he/she would have been appalled.

If he had been there the event would have been reported on as
gun-nuts and right wing fanatics trying to bring on death and
destruction through the proliferating of private ownership of guns
that kill minorities, women, and children.

Yes, that's exactly the article I would expect.

The media is vitally necessary. I'm glad your event was such a success! We did a club clean up at my Rod and gun club this weekend and it was a great deal of fun too. Our oldest member doesn't get around so well and so he cleaned the "club" guns. The younger guys did some of the more physical work e.g. wood splitting and sawyer work. Us middle aged guys raked, filled pot holes and painted. Each according to his ability. No one got paid; we did it for the common good. Socialism in action!

I am not sure but no where close to the attendance at the fund raiser. Maybe 500 at the most. Mostly local people looking for a night out. We have trap, skeet, and a pistol range. We are limited on space but one board member said with the funds raised they could squeeze in a 100 yard rifle range. I don't shoot rifle or pistol but if that gets new members I am for it.
By the way there was not a single person wearing a mask. We are in Nebraska.

Not so surprising how different attitudes are in Western Nebraska than in New York or California. I'm glad you had a great turn-out Wayne.

Yes, that's exactly the article I would expect.

Don't forget the paucity of "people of color", which would have been prominent in the article.

They would be right about the lack of people of color, there were none present. I believe we have one black family in the whole county. The head of the family is a well regarded doctor from Nigeria.

Fish, don’t let others turn your great original post into a political rant.

The OP was political or quasi-political from the get go. Do you think that a NY Times report would have been complimentary?

I get that......and no. Other than that, it was a great write up about a great event in a wonderful community.

But since that’s what he was trying for from the beginning, y’all carry on with the political rants. With a little more work, I’m sure every single subsection here can become a quasi rant room.

Maybe. I realize it’s tough on those who thrived in the politics section.

"Everything started after the Pledge of Allegiance was given.I can't remember the last time I heard the Pledge."

I hear, and say, the Pledge of Allegiance each month at the start of our club's membership meeting.

Hats are off, hands are over the heart and there isn't anyone taking a knee.
