What do box, case, flat, and pallet refer to in quantity of shotgun shells?

yep a pallet can be a subjective number.
50-65 is more likely though.

and your probably not gonna find a case of shells anymore.
too bad too because the old wooden boxes hold up pretty well and are as handy as milk crates for storing stuff.
the cardboard ones weren't too bad either, and usually had a good wax on them which held things together quite nicely.

From J&S, most pallets are 100-112 flats

So here is a dumb question. Since cases (20 boxes) are not available anymore, why is a flat, not just now known as a case?

I have not seen a true "case" of 20 boxes since about 1990.

I think that if semantics were to be set aside, that shooters and suppliers mostly refer to a cardboard box containing 10 boxes of 25 shells a "case". Evident when looking at J&S and other places online

If I wanted a case, and someone gave me a flat, I would be unhappy.
Nobody that I know calls a flat of 10 boxes, a case.

See, I am the exact opposite. Everyone I know that buys a 'case' of shells, expects a box of ten.

Nope. A case is 20 boxes. Back in the day, about 1977, I bought a case, a real case, of Remington RXP top of the line target shells for $45.00. Works out to $2.25 a box. Memories like that are etched in my memory. 20 boxes to a case. Always was. Always will be.

I'm guessing you might be a younger guy... we graybeards know a "case" as 20 boxes. 8)

A few years ago I bought 3 1/2 cases of AA Plus 3 dram cartridges. That's seven flats.
A treasure trove that I was very pleased to get.
I am still loading those compression formed hulls.

Then you should be careful buying shotgun shells because many retailers, like Grafs, say 250 shotgun shells is a case.

You must be shooting with a younger crowd. Hopefully, you won't soon be referring to a shotgun as a shotgun.

If 65 is shooting with a younger crowd, that is me.

Many people DO call a "flat" a "case". I know that I do... even though a "case" was originally 20 boxes of shells.

A Flat (250 shells) is known as a Slab here in Australia.

Believe the change from Cases (500 shells) was because of OH&S.
