has anybody been there. If so is the hunting any good?
They advertised the fishing to be great, and it was horrible, I don't want to go out there and walk around for hours to find 1 squirrel.
If anybody has gone and had success, when did you go, what did you go for, what did you use, etc.
Thanks.

I'm curious how it works out for you - I live fairly close.

Well, if nobody has any insight to this matter, maybe we can meet there and either have a lot of fun, or be really dissapointed... hahaha

If you're willing to put up with someone that hasn't hunted since childhood, I'm OK with that!
What season were you thinking?

Well, Im 20 and have shot clays for the past 5 years and just started getting into hunting so Im sure you could teach me some stuff.
I thought the non permit dove season looked good there. September 6 - 30. Starts at Noon and you can go till sunset.
The squirrel is around the same dates and looks fun as well.
But, im game for whatever.
Ive tried there trap fields which are pretty fun, if you have your own thrower.

Hi guys - did either of you get there? I didn't have a permit for Sept 1-5 but got in on stand-by. There are ~150 spots for dove hunters and there were less than 75 day 2, less than 40 day 3... Not too many birds either. The fields are so big, the birds just go where no one is.
I've also sq. hunted there too. You have to get under a nice acorn bearing oak and sit, call, wait... I've had sucess there quite a bit.
Nice park, nice public "trap" range (when there aren't any nuts out...), nice bow range too.

well... if the bird hunting there is bad then I really have no reason to go, because I could hunt squirrel in my yard.

I've been dove hunting there twice; this year and last. Each time was terrible. However, the put and take pheasant hunting is really good. Make sure you have a pheasant reservation though -- standby's don't always get out to hunt.
