Hi everyone, I'm pretty new to the site. I live in Everett and I was wondering with bird season quickly approaching, is there any public bird hunting spots in western washington?

Are there even any quail in Western WA?

Are there any places to hunt in the Snohomish area?

Sorry for all the questions, but thanks in advance!

Jeff

You would probably be better off going after grouse in western Wa. Not too many quail that I know of.

Jeff,

Most likely a moot point, considering this is now January, even though I've hunted upland 'til darn near February in the past, but that was many moons ago.

I know there's a bird release in Tahuya, somewhere.
That's down in Belfair, in Kitsap county.

Otherwise, you're so close to the passes, why not just go over to eastern washington and have at it.
There's a ton of quail and pheasant out in the George/Quincy area. Just sign up for the community hunt and you can hunt any field the farmers will let cha'.
Also, there's a crap load of Chukar out in Black Canyon (follow the signs to "Kettle Flats"). That's across the street from Hardy Canyon, just on the east side of the Manashtash Ridge.

My father and I spent many hours in those places, when I was a kid.

UPDATE:

Since my prior post, I've decided to check on the status of The George Community Hunt and found that it no longer exists.
If you want to hunt a farmer's field in that area, you now must first ask permission of that farmer.

Hello.

I hope somebody will be checking back to this page after all this time!

During the past week or two, I have heard what what sounds like quail near my garden in Edmonds. Needless to say, my husband and I were both quite surprised. We back up to a wooded county park and have a blackberry/wild cherry thicket between us and one neighbor and small, open tall grassy/garden areas near the house.

Any ideas what we might be hearing?

Thank you in advance!
Mary

quail.
It would not be uncommon.
I used to live in Edmonds (Meadowdale, actually), but now live in Poulsbo. I see quail struttin' around mom's back yard all the time.
She has blackberries too. That may be the attraction.
You could get a pair of binoculars and next time you hear the sound, use the binoc's to see what it is you're hearing.

Thanks, Dean!

(The noisy little guys seem to be pretty well hidden by the time I look around for them!)

We have had an ever-changing cast of characters since we moved here 8 years ago. Early on I heard what sounded like a cardinal and was surprised to think they had made it across the mountains (we had been away about ten years). I spotted the culprit one day--a wren, doing a great imitation!

Thanks, again!

Thanks, again!

(Whoda thunk this is where I'd find the answer?!)
