I have a chance to buy a 12 gauge what are some of the positives and negatives of this model? Does anybody know what an average value of these guns are? ..looking in Canadian $$

The 201e is the same as the Merkel 200e but is game scene engraved and has a greyed receiver vs color case hardened on the 200e-- Blitz action, usually double trigger with pancake cheekpiece (but there are SST and no cheek piece examples), solid rib, double Kersten crossbolt. The pre war (WWII) models seem to command the highest prices if still in good condition, then the 1950s guns, then 1960s, then 1970s, etc. the post unification guns seem not to be as highly thought of Expect the fixed chokes to be very tight (like Mod and Full or IM and Full). Wood is nice and tight grained but not especially marked. Most will have right handed cast to them.
Well made and very "pointable" field guns -- lead shot.

Price really depends on condition.
Low end in US dollars probably $1800, higher end up to $3,400.

How do you date these guns ?
All I can find in markings is a 955 on the the barrel flats.. is this 1955 ?
