I bought a used Kolar skeet 2-barrel set that was made in 2002. It has a very glossy and hard finish - at least compared to the Browning I have been shooting. I think I will have to put an adjustable comb on it which means there will be some wood surfaces that will need to be touched up.

I called Kolar and the lady did a little bit of checking and said they can not tell me what the finish was back then. She said - maybe - if I sent in some pictures, they could give me a better answer. Does anyone here know what the finish might be? I have been told that Kolar used something like automotive clear coat either now or in the past.

I searched this forum without finding any additional information. Thanks...

I have a 2003 Kolar that is still my number 1 gun. Back then, all Kolar stocks were outsourced to Wenig for checkering and finish. Maybe call Wenig??

Tnx, horsedr; Wenig confirms your info. The finish was a Sherwin-Williams "conversion varnish" which they went away from because it tended to yellow. I did not ask when they changed or what they changed to.

Same thing Rags told me. Interesting that it tended to yellow. I keep toying with the idea of stripping my forend and refinishing it (I use a PFS, so the forend is the only wood), still too afraid to LOL
