I wouldn't trade my pooch in for any other breed and will always own one. He's a 3 year old Apricot Brindle English Mastiff and tips the scales at 208 lbs. He is my second dog of this breed. The first one was a Fawn English Mastiff but at the ripe old age of 13 he passed away.

For hunting -- German Shorthaired Pointer (GSP). As a pet -- Shetland Sheepdog -- hands down.

I've spent most of my life as a Professional Dog Handler showing many breeds of dogs at dog shows.

GSP overall has the best nose, instincts and will do it all -- upland, ducks, retrieving, and rabbits -- whatever you want!

Shelties are more intelligent than most breeds and try and please their owners. That's a combination that makes training a Sheltie almost like cheating!

For those that say one breed or other is spooky or has bad temperaments -- puppies from a successful show kennel will have good temperaments.

Buy from a successful breeder -- whether from hunting stock or show stock.

English Springer Spaniel. The working strain variety not the show types. Total lunatics and hard work at times but they sure are a fantatic dog.

I have to go with the Boston Terrier. It is the only dog I have ever had that has told me to go [email protected]$k myself, while it was using the remote to change the TV channel to Animal Planet. (Seriously though....amazingly smart.)

I love Pit Bulls and German Shepherds. I think they are great dogs and I own 1 of each and I get to foster some as well.
