I agree LM (.015) is a great all around selection, especially for Sporting Clays.

For Hunting it covers a wide variety of game and shooting situations. Is the the perfect choke for everything? No... but if I could only have one choke LM would be tough to argue against.

I agree also, with the use of LM(.015),no need to use another choke.

Don't remember seeing a fix choked gun marked as Light Modified (LM) but have seen a couple marked as Modified (M) that measured 15 thousands.

I like LM. I use it in both bbls for sporting 99% of the time and sporting is what I mostly shoot today. If I manipulate anything for sporting, it's the shells, not the chokes.

Trap - Full
Skeet - Skeet
Upland - IC
Waterfowl - IC
Flyers - Full & Full

We all talk of LM as .015 of constriction and that is the standard, however, I've seen choke tubes stamped LM that were as open as .011 and as tight as .018 and the patterns may reflect this if you take the time to pattern them.

I have four Winchester shotgun barrels that are marked Modified and miike out to .715. Two SX1 barrels and a couple of Model 12's from 1941.

But they aren't fooling anybody, especially not our English friends. Real men shooting real Modified chokes won't settle for anything less than an honest to god .020 thousands constriction!!!.:)

I generally use LM/SK2 a great deal of the time for 5-stand and sporting clays, many times when hunting as well.

Boys, I used a 28", modified Ithaca 37 this morning. At about 36" off of the barrel it had ample density of pattern with 1 1/4 oz #6 to deal with a coiled, nasty rattle snake. It seemed to penetrate 1" of snake rather well. Only complaint was that there was only 2 rattles left of the tail end which was severed from the rest of the snake, got lucky and found the head to bury so kids didn't step on it or a dog get ahold of it. So now I pronounce the Ithaca 37, Mod. barrel just about perfect!

Interesting comment Sera. My FFL (also an accomplished SC shooter) shoots a Beretta with M or a Purdey in M/F (for SxS shoots). Does this mean we are shooting "manly targets"?

One day I gotta come see these "manly targets" you shoot in Texas! I know that everything in Tx is bigger and better, but every year when I go to San Antonio to hunt doves I don't find them any harder to hit than I did doves in Va.

Maybe the Doves in Tx aren't "manly doves"?

Oh....that is right!!!!!!!!!! Doves are migratory birds!!!!!!!!!! So Tx Doves are not really Tx doves, so they can't be "manly targets"! Image Image Image

This is a good chuckle before going to work! Thanks for the grins Sera!!!!! :D :D :D

2few: No problem.

BTW , doves in Texas are avian targets and are thus neither manly nor girly......but they are also fatalistic as they know that their time soaring to the heavens is almost over when the Texans can take aim and send their little souls to the great spirit.

I like a light modified but I love the freedom of spinning in another choke.

A light modified makes a dandy pheasant choke most of the time but it would be to tight for most ruffed grouse hunting, and going the other way I wouldn't want to depend on a light modified pattern to kill a gobbler at 40 yards through the woods.

It's a nice 5-stand choke.

As for that, why is it that when I was in San Antonio last year hunting doves some yahoo shot a dove with his semi auto.....killed it with the first shot and then shot it 4 more times before it hit the ground?

Now look....I'm a lousy shot, but I almost always use a SxS on Doves....16 or 20 gauge of course.....and even I don't expend 5 shells for every dove killed. JEEZ!!!! That's "doveburger"

I think you Louisiana boys may need to give some lessons to the Texas boys.

Trulock Precision Hunter LM for all of my shotguns. By the way Texas has a huge dove population that is non-migratory, they live here year round.
