A TUBED 12 ga target gun.

Bar none, this will have almost zero recoil but will obviously be fairly heavy. 28 ga. feels like a 22 LR if he's willing to go down one more gauge and still be able to hit things. 410 feels like a misfire.

Maybe a Browning B2000 20 Gauge.

In my experience I found my 11/87 20 gauge to be very soft shooting. I’d imagine that if a super cell pad were installed on it, or on an 1100, felt recoil would be reduced even more. This is in comparison to my other 20 gauge guns which all are fixed breech with noticeably more felt recoil. I’ve never owned a different 20 gauge auto. This might be a problem that needs to be remedied.

Whatever gun it is going to be, it HAS TO FIT YOU! A gun that does not fit you is going to punish you with recoil. Form is also going to play into recoil. A heavy gun will absorb some recoil, but that won't mean much it doesn't fit and you aren't holding it properly. Please get knowledgeable, in person assistance on fit and form. You should find the lack of recoil from a properly fitting shotgun to be amazing.

Make that three of us! I have an old standard weight skeet gun, an LT, and a Sporting 20. All are very soft shooting.
