I am looking at semi automatic shotguns currently. I have it narrowed to a Benelli Super Sport or a Beretta A400 xcel par trgt.Leaning towards the Beretta.

Inertia v gas, not sure if this topic has been covered before. I vote Super Sport, I like them slim.

Beretta. Gas over inertia, two barrels over inertia. I'd shoot a Benelli only if someone else was supplying the ammo.

Beretta hands down. For hunting, especially waterfowl, I really like inertia, but for clays there is no comparison.

I had an A400 XPLOR and numerous Benelli M2s. The A400 was really soft shooting but I could not get it to fits me properly with the supplied shims so I gave up on it after 10 months and went back to the Benelli. the recoil is a little more but really not that bad IMO. I've been experimenting with light loads and our two M2s will cycle [email protected] 1325fps and they are super light recoiling. I might switch over to these loads for most of my shooting and use 7/8oz for my heavy target load.

I'm surprised that Benelli cycles 3/4 oz. 12 ga. I'm surprised it cycles 7/8oz. as well. I reload 7/8oz. for my Citori but don't consider them heavy loads.

Gas operated less recoil. Inertia operated easier to clean and will need cleanning less. I have a gas gun and enjoy the mild recoil but it does get pretty dirty. I think the inertia guns weigh less too?

Years from now you’ll appreciate the gas gun. One can only take the pounding from a recoil operated gun for so long.

I shot a Benelli SuperSport 20 for several months and it was way overpriced and would not tolerate light loads. I believe the Beretta A400 is a better clay gun by every measure except ease of cleaning.

The parallel target is a pretty darned cool model. I'd definitely give one of those a shot. I have read complaints of them shooting unbearably high which would be a deal killer but have no direct experience with one to say for sure.

Did you notice the velocity? At 1325 fps I’m not surprised at all. That is a lot of recoil energy. I loaded the 3/4oz this fast because research showed that's what it would take to cycle the gun. I've haven't shot a bunch of them yet but I have no doubt the gun will be 100%, cold weather might be the only time I might have problems but I spend all my time in the winter either hunting or plowing snow. They are still really soft shooting and feel like a 20ga. The 7/8oz loads at 1250fps with 700X are nice shooting loads but are a little on the dirty side. I switched to Clays for 7/8 and with enough powder to get them to 1300 they are really clean burning but I think the felt recoil is more than my 1250FPS 1oz loads with 700X. I've had M1/M2s in the past that wouldn't cycle anything under 1oz but the last three we've owned have. The guns are stock and I use the supplied Benelli oil on the rails which is a really light weight oil.

I ordered the A400 Parallel Target to have a auto. I asked the guy at the gun store to get the best price on a Silver Pigeon Sport so i will see what he can do. I live on a few acres with deer and turkey everywhere so thats why i wanted a good auto but i know the over under is more suited for clays, even so i ordered some rubber bands off of ebay for shell catcher, for the A400, they look more like orings.

If you put a Silver Pigeon in the safe next to the A400, you'll have a great pair of shotguns and you'll be ready for clay targets and game.
