I really enjoy hunting grouse in Maine with my L.C. Smith doubles, but am considering purchasing a modern double. I have narrowed it down to two choices and wondered what folks thought the best choice would be...S&W Elite Gold or CZ Bobwhite. I'm looking at a 20 gauge. My major concern is barrel regulation on the CZ. I'm not worried about the S&W. Anybody pattern the Bobwhite for regulation?

The December 2020 "Shotgun Sports" has a review of the CZ Bobwhite G2 in 28 ga that is quite favorable. You might also consider posting on the Huglu forum as I know a lot of the people on there have the Bobwhite G2 and will share their experiences with you. My preference in SXS's is single triggers and POW stocks, however one of my guns is the 20 ga S&W Elite Gold with single trigger and open pistol grip that I shoot well and have bagged quite a few birds shooting. Neither of the guns you are considering is a conventional Anson and Deeley boxlock design, The S&W is a trigger plate action and the G2 is a redesigned coil spring action that more closely resembles the layout seen on O/U's than the conventional boxlock. The G2 Bobwhite does lose a bit of weight compared to the older Bobwhite (G1?).

Thanks for the reply. I'll try the huglu forum, too.

Bbl regulation is spot on w/the CZ--fixed chokes tend to be tighter than marked
