For those of you who compete (but not yet sponsored), do you carry a backup gun to tournaments? If so, what do you have? Ideally one would have 2 identical guns but not everyone can afford two Perazzis or Krieghoffs. Thanks.

Mine is 2 Kolars and 2- 390s. All with Wenig New American stocks. I still keep a MT6 for a spare or loaner, a left over from my Perazzi days.

Two Blaser F3 but only one custom stock. Easy enough to switch. This also covers all my sub-gauge. Only one pump and SxS unless it is a dedicated Pump or SxS tournament.

Two 390s that fit the same. I also keep my 3200 handy for multi-day tournaments.

K-80 with a CG with the same stock set up as back up and a Beretta 682 4 Barrel set up as a rain gun.

Two 391's set up identically. I have never needed the backup.

My answer was to buy a new primary gun. It's all kind of silly, but it was easier in my mind to justify spending the money on a gun I was going to shoot all the time and make my old gun the back up. I had the set up from my old gun put on my new one.
If that won't work, it depends on how much you are willing to spend. To not spend a lot, I would consider something like an A300 Sporting. A trigger job and some Briley weights it makes a nice back up and you would also have a bad weather semi if you don't want your nice over/under in the weather.

"For those of you who compete (but not yet sponsored) " I'm not yet sponsored, doubt I ever will be but I do have people give me a box of shells every now and then. When I shoot the Rem 870 I don't need backup gun, same with the Win SX1 but I do keep a foul weather 870 express in the truck.

I once got a gun slip form Perazzi. Does that count as "sponsorship" There are so few people who are actually sponsored that you could count them on 2 hands, maybe one.

I like a Kreigoff K32 as a backup for skeet. For a trap backup, I like a JC higgins 12 ga pump with an 8 power scope site and a polychoke. For sporting I like Diana pellet gun, it makes the competition think I can even hit with a pellet gun. I can't afford all those so I just shoot a Mossberg bolt action 16 ga for everything.

Perazzi MX-8 combo. Both are as identical as I could make them.

2 K-80 combos for trap, another Krieghoff K-80 sport and skeet gun for fun shooting. For trap, one K-80 is set up with a top single barrel for singles and caps. The other I carry to shoots is set up for doubles so I do shoot both.

I have two Kemen KM-4's and two Winchester Super X Model 1's, all with custom stocks to fit me. BUT, in 20 years I have never needed a backup. Guess they are too reliable !

Thanks for your replies. It seems like most folks stick with the 2 identical guns rule which makes sense.
Best wishes to those of you from Texas.

Whatever my friends are shooting, unless its FITASC, then one of my subgauge guns, if I brought them.
