I am looking at the cz and mossberg and Steven. I want one with screw in chokes one day I would also like to turkey hunt with one with TSS shot. I will reload for it. Out of the 3 which one is the best for money. This will be my first 28 ga. I will squirrel hunt with it mostly. I have always wanted one.

I started life with a sxs .410, which was not a good choice. I has been stated that a .410 is not a beginner's shotgun, it is an expert's shotgun. The 28 ga. is an improvement. I couldn't hit squat on the wing as a 5 th. grade student until Pop let me shoot his old bird gun, a featherweight 12 ga. LC Smith. I still remember thinking, wow, you can actually hit flying stuff with this! Well, a squirrel doesn't have wings & most of them don't fly. Within it's effective range, the .410 worked fine on bushy tails & when my shooting got better, I could even hit flying stuff with it. Logically, if a .410 works for squirrels, a 28 ga. will work better. I always wanted a 28 ga. SXS. The only reason I don't have one is that it has nothing to offer that my 20 ga. shooting 7/8 oz. of shot doesn't do. If I were starting over & didn't already have too many guns, I would probably buy one.

I would go with the CZ out of those three choices.

I use and like a 28 single shot for squirrels sometimes. I think of your list I would prefer the sxs.

I like to squirrel hunt, mostly with shotguns, and have toyed with the idea of buying a 28ga. But since I already own a camo 20ga SX3, a really good squirrel shotgun, I just can't justify the cost of a new 28ga gun and the more expensive shells. That said, I do believe that a 28ga would be good if not great for squirrel hunting. Of the guns listed, I'd go with the CZ.

I bought a mossberg 500 410 TSS turkey gun last fall. I killed a truck load hunting with it. Crow hunted also. Not like hunting with a 12ga. I have a mossberg 500 20ga made in 1971. My neighbor give it to me because he cut the barrel off. So I bought a 26 inch barrel for it. Makes a good squirrel gun. Plus it was free. I have a sx3 12ga. I don't like using 12ga on them. I have always wanted a 28 ga. I never thought about a sxs. Cz makes some nice ones. I listen to ya about getting a 410 reloader. A can of powder will load up alot of squirrel loads. I looked at the CZ sxs 28ga bobwhite model very nice gun. But I like the over and under the best. Wish they made it in 410 with screw in chokes.

I think that the Stevens 555 O/U does come in .410 with choke tubes. You might check again.

Yes it does. I have looked at it very nice. Another brand I looked up was a stoeger 28ga over and under. I don't deer hunt much anymore. I like catching squirrels more than deer hunting anymore.

There’s a 28ga thread going on over on Gobbler Nation discussing some of those very guns. Check it out! They’re showing some amazing numbers with the 28ga. I’d vote for the CZ

Will do thank u. Right now the 28ga ammo is easy to find in skeet and heavy game loads in Winchester 3/4oz 6 shot. And then federal 1oz 6 shot. I seen Winchester AA and federal top gun 28ga ammo.

How ironic that the 12 & 20 are now the RARE gauges and the 28 & 16 are the ones with more commonly found ammo! Weird times for sure.

Around here, hardly anyone shoots a 28ga. The 16 is more popular although far less so that the 12, 20 and even the .410.

All three rifles are excellent and the price category is about the same. They are both great for hunting squirrels or turkeys. Which one to choose depends entirely on your preferences.
I'm thinking of buying a rifle and hunting squirrels, too. Why squirrels? Because they are tired of getting into my yard and ruining my lawn and flowers. No repellents work on them. I do not plan to make traps, because their dead carcasses will then stink and my wife will go crazy if she sees it. She's trying to convince me to settle this humanely by contacting a wildlife removal company. I don't even know if I want to deprive myself of the pleasure of hunting.

I ended up buying a new Tristan G2 viper 28ga. I sure like the gun. Kind glad I went with the SA gun. I don't know if people are buying the 28ga and reselling it other places. But I went into Walmart yesterday. They had more 12ga ammo than 28ga. Only 28ga now is federal top gun in 7.5 and 8 shot. The 7.5 will work not my first choice. But I will use it if I have too. I have case of AA 8 shot ammo. I bought it for the hulls. Mite said it for dove season. I bought a mec 600 jr mark 5 28ga loader. I will start reloading 28ga soon. Our squirrel season opens May 15 thru February 28th 12 per day is the limit.

I have the Yildiz from Academy Sports. That may also be an option

Here’s your “One and Done” 28 gauge for all occasions.
You won’t have to buy another 28 gauge for anything ...that is unless of course you want to.

Do you dog hunt or just still hunt?
