Have what might be a stupid question about chokes. I’ve shot skeet for the last 30+ years and have never used choke tubes other than SKT/SKT, however I’ve been shooting 5-stand a lot more. I load a 3/4oz round and have great success with it…95% or better, but not hitting what I think I should with 5-stand. Granted it’s new to me, but I think I should be hitting more than I am, so my thinking is go tighter on the second shot as those are the ones I’m having trouble with…am I thinking correctly? Thanks for the help.

All depends on if the trap setters goal is to be more competition than shooters. If I am the setter at our club, you would be ok with IM and mod for a 3/4 oz load. If the other guy that sets 5-stand for us is there, you will need 1 1/8th oz hard shot through IM and mod. The game can be variable.

Hard to give an exact answer as all 5 Stands are different, but maybe try an IC/M or LM/M or M/M and maybe even a M/IM combo. Good luck But pretty much it boils down to shot placement vs what choke.

Aware of that, however I know I have the lead right on some of the longer shots but miss around 30% give or take, which leads me to think tighter choke

I believe your assessment is right that on a longer target with 3/4 ounce you need to go tighter. My recommendation would be to stick at least one mod choke in there and try it.
As mentioned a lot depends too on how the 5 stand field is set. Honestly I have never shot a 5 stand field I would have felt comfortable using a skeet choke for.

Use Mod. No disrespect intended , but it might be wrong to think "you know the lead."
BUT--I'd always have Mod in the gun and learn to center.
