I used to shoot sporting clays a lot 5-10 years ago and used to play poison bird. I am wondering if I have to home make a thrower or if you can purchase something to play that game. I have seen the do it all traps which I think I could modify the clay holder but if they have something purpose built I would prefer that. I remember the thrower the sporting clays course had stacked clays but each clay had a slot. I just didn’t know if it was home made. Thanks for the help!!!

Poison birds are prohibited by rule in a NSCA shoot.

You can sometimes stack birds off the same arm, but a dual arm set up works nicer IMO.

I would focus on building the beer bird thrower first!

Poison bird isn’t an official shoot this is for backyard fun. It is more of an Annie Oakley style game. What happens is a thrower will throw three birds(at least the style I have played) all at the same time. Two orange birds and one black. If you break the black it’s negative one no matter how many of the other two that you break. To make it easier. One Orange broken is on point. Two Orange broken is two points and if you break the black at any time it is negative one. So if you shoot ten rounds the worst score would be negative 10 and the best score would be 20. IT is a lot of fun to play and yes not a registered shoot but a whole lot of fun to play and the wind has a lot of effect on how tight the patten of the clays are. Where the same thrower throws all three at the same time they can be really tight and in that case it is better not to take the shot so you dont get the negative points.
Thanks,
Carl

We have used a Lincoln SC 90 for a similar game. Standard arm (two slots), one target in the bottom slot, two targets nested on top. Use the rubber stops to adjust for more or less spacing between the targets in flight.
