Gentlemen,

GBE was actually a Uniontown, Pa boy, his hunting ethics were drawn from his Father and his Fathers friends, who were avid bird hunters. He started off as a boy hunting mostly Quail in the fields around Uniontown, Pa. GBE Sr was a good friend of my Grandfather he introduced GBE Sr to our Grouse hunting tradition in Laurel mountains, not too far from where the Evens home was located. Many sportsman because of GBE's writing have a misconception that GBE was from WVa. It was not till later in life that he and Kay purchased their home in WVa. In fact his father did the bidding on the farm they named Old Hemlock, because GBE was working for Cosmo Magazine in NY at the time, and was unable to come home.

Pa Grouse hunters owe GBE for introducing the Sporting world to our Pa Upland Shooting life, ethics, Double guns, Ryman Grouse Dogs and all. He also took George Rymans great Grouse dogs and started his Old Hemlock line. Using Blue one of Rymans great male Grouse dogs, and later Ryman's Blue Heather an incredible female Ryman dog, that I actually trained as a young man, GBE developed some serious Grouse Dogs of his own. GBE and George Ryman were not friendly, not because GBE used George Ryman's incredible Grouse dogs to start his own Grouse dog line, but because of the way GBE portrayed George Ryman in one of his books.

GBE passed away over 20 years ago, however because of his writing he will never really die.

all the best,

Pine Creek/Dave

From my February 18th post in this thread..."GBE has been gone for 22 years.....It is good that he can not see the corruption of his ideas and his life on message boards.".

Sometimes, it is good to repeat....respect for GBE requires it all the more so.

Message boards should come with a beaker of salt grains.

Some people like to repeat themselves when they really have nothing constructive to say.

Add something worth while to the conversation. Curly usually does not give 2nd warnings.
