I have one of these, all I could find out is that it is a Savage Model 520 I beleive, made prior to 1950, serial # U12091. There is an engraving of a dog standing in a field on the side, on that same side it says Western Field, Montgomery Ward, on the barrel it says Browning Patent 12 Ga Proof Tested, says Full at the end of the barrel near the receiver. This was my dads, it has a full length barrel, wood stock and forearm, the wood is in very good shape, considering its age. Does anyone have any idea of the value, and who would purchase something like this? Pics available on request.
Thanks.

The guns sold by Sears, Wards, Western Auto, etc., were made by many different manufacturers.
None of them are worth much.......I would guesstimate $200 tops!!
But, IT WAS YOUR DADS!!!
The only gun I have that was my Dad's is an old damascus barrelled wall hanger..........and you don't have enough money to buy My Dad's Gun!!!

You do have a point, about it beng my Dads and keeping it, I have 3 brothers and neither of them wanted it, I got his Black Powder weapons, so my Mother asked me to see if I could find the value and possibly a buyer, and this was the first place I found when I googled shotgun collectors....
Thanks.

Give her $50 and take your mother out to dinner.
Start shooting it.
I just bought a 16 ga. for $300.
It is in mint condition though. 12 in mint likely $200 or a little more.
If it has the dog, does it have a rib on the barrel?
If so it is the deluxe model. Can you post pics?
I believe they stopped making the 520's in 1939.

1. I have a Remington 870 I use for everything except Deer.
2. I wouldn't say mint, but no rust and it does function.
3.No vent rib
4. Pic added, I don't think it is a Deluxe Model.
From what I found out so far, these were made during WWI and WWII.
Thanks

Hello, I'm trying to figure out the price of a shotgun like this i have the dog and the rib vent on the top of the receiver. no rust, it functions but racking it forward can be hard and its missing the stock padding. all of the wood finishing is still present. it is a 12ga but there is no Model number on it but it looks like the SN is either 61167 or 1167. here is a google photo link to photos https://photos.app.goo.gl/yMdVPFXUv6zGij8r5

CSTChristian,
You’ve got a Stevens Model 520 that was made for sale through Montgomery Wards department stores under their store brand name Western Field. The serial number is 61167B and your shotgun was made around 1930. You are missing your ejector w/screw and your breech block stop screw, both from the left side of the receiver. The original plastic buttplate has been replaced with an aftermarket recoil pad that is also mostly gone. It’s worth around $150-$175 in this condition.
