I currently have a Browning 725 Field 12 gauge and need to know how the Browning 725 Sporter 12 gauge fits compared to it. I can't find a 725 Sporter locally to check out and its been years since I shouldered one. I need to decide by tomorrow to order a 725 Sporter 32" non -ported or not. April 15th is the last day for Browning's tax rebate sale. Thanks
I can't say for sure about the 725, but often the Browning O/U field models will have more drop in the comb and heel than the sporting guns. They may have more cast also, but Browning doesn't typically list any cast figures even though all their guns that I have checked closely did have some cast. The field models also may be a little shorter in LOP.
So, long story short, even though the "guts" of the gun are the same, the fit and finish may not be. That's not to say that the field guns are inferior in fit. In fact, it's very possible that more drop may be better for the average/typical shooter.
I have both the Sporting and Field models. In addition to the palm swell on the Sporting model, the LOP is longer. The Browning website has stock dimensions for each of these models.
Thanks for the info. I decided to pass on the 725 Sporting for now.
