I'm new to browning autos. I recently picked up a gold stalker 3.5 on the cheap. Previous owner said it wouldn't cycle any more and he didn't have tine to deal with it. I assumed it just needed cleaned, which it did. In a bad way. That's all taken care of, but when I had the gun disassembled I found what seems to be an extra piece. It was inside the magazine follower and just came rolling out when I pulled the magazine spring out. I can't find it on any of the exploded parts diagrams. It's heavy, and has a gold octagon shaped flat spring epoxied to it. Is it supposed to be in there? If so, which way does the spring need to point. Towards the action, or the magazine tube cap? I'm assuming the gold flat spring goes against the follower and the magazine tube spring slips over the metal end? Here are a few pics.

That appears to be the magazine spring weight assembly--

but I don't remember the orientation. Might go to Brownells website and look at the schematics for it.

That's the problem. Brownells, my owners manual, etc. none of them show that part. Someone here has to know for certain.

Bull64, that's what it is. I found the part at midway. It has to go in the gun the way I put it back in. Flat gold spring against the follower, flat metal end goes up inside the recoil spring and the spring rests on the ridge of the metal part.

You are correct--that is the only way that it will assemble and function. My memory is not what it used to be !

Mines been sitting in a gun parts box for more than a dozen years. The first time I saw it, I called Browning to ask its purpose. No one there could tell me what it did or even knew what I was talking about. One less part on break downs and saves about an ounce and a quarter of weight.

Lol, I couldn't really see how it was essential for function, but I didn't know. Figured I better stuff it back in there. I just found it odd that it wasn't on any of the parts diagrams. Hopefully I can make it to the range sometime in the near future, and see how she shoots.

This one was made in 2000. I can't find the part in any diagram, anywhere. But midway has it listed, and shows a picture of it in their browning gold parts list. Strange...
