I know that since you are here on the browning forum you have good taste, so what kind of rifles do you collect/shoot? I have a soft spot for older Winchesters. Here are two factory originals that have been with me for some time. A 1957 model 70 in the very scarce 458 WM caliber (African). Below is a mint condition model 1885 hi wall (made in 1910) with a #3 barrel and set trigger in 38-55. Please post up some shots of your favorite rifles.

I have always liked classic single shot rifles. This is the only one I happen to have a photo of. Unlike your high wall, this one is not an original, it's a Winchester branded Miroku 1885 Low Wall in .22 LR.

It's also decently accurate. Five shots @ 50 yards.

 Top: Ruger MK77 Stainless......270.......Tack driver !! Shorter..lighter..easier to carry..my "stalker" rifle
 Middle: Weatherby Vanguard VGX....30-06. Looks nice, but heavy & cumbersome..my "stand" gun
 Bottom: Marlin 30 AS.....30-30....Took more game with this $250 gun than with both the above combined. Purchased at "Herman's" in 1985. Remember "Herman's" ??

Browning BAR is a favorite of my son who hunts year around. He is a disabled veteran who was badly burned and lost a leg in the military. He has tried several rifles. Likes them all. But his favorite is the BAR.

We have over 8,000 acres of prime hunting paradise leased giving him plenty of hunting opportunity. Though I have been retired from salaried positions for more than 20 years, I am too busy to hunt a lot. When I deer hunt, I use one of his bolt actions, usually a Steyr Scout 270. I have sold most of my firearms and he has more than enough in his safe to loan his old man a rifle.

Out of the rifles being produced today, the Sako Model 85 is the one that I can't stop thinking about. The 85 Hunter and 85 Finnlight are amazing guns. Someday I hope to own one. Other current models that I like are the Winchester Model 70 Super Grade, the Kimber 84 series, the Montana Rifle Company X2, and of course, the Weatherby Mark V Deluxe is still a great gun.

For now, my main hunting rifle is a Kimber 84m in 260 Remington that is a joy to carry. It took the place of a Weatherby Vanguard Deluxe in 30-06 that was handed down from my grandpa. I still shoot that every now and then but it is no longer my primary rifle. As for a safe queen? Well, that would be the Winchester 1894, produced in 1906, in 30 WCF that sirs in the back. That started out as my great grandpa's. I'd love to shoot one deer with it and then continue to pass it on.

Joe

1971 Browning BAR Grade V 30-06, my understanding is that they only made about 600 of these between 1971-1974. It was too expensive to produce due to the amount of engraving on them.

For years I wanted to buy a Grade IV, then I had the opportunity to buy the Grade V instead. I think the grade V is a work of art, as it has the Midas grade pattern, however far more coverage.

Winslow Bushmaster Crown Grade 300 Win Mag, as you can see I like very plain guns made for utility and durability in the field! Inlays and carving signed by Nils Hultgren.

Some day I will figure out how to easily post pictures on this forum. Over the years I have owned a lot of rifles, but today only 7. I haven't hunted in years, so they are all now for punching paper or knocking down metal targets. .17 though .308. No Magnums for me any more.

One of the favorite guns I built was for my niece's husband who was wanting a Marine Viet Nam era M-40A1. He tracked down a few, but the asking price was way beyond a working man's ability to pay. He asked what I could do and we decided to build a replica, but using the components that the Marine armorers likely would have used had they been available back then. The camo finish was applied by a real artist in gun finishing, Joe from LMT Refinishing. With that Krieger stainless barrel, it shoots as good as it looks. He was offered $10,000 for it by an elderly gent at the range one day after letting him fire a few rounds, but thankfully turned him down.

Image

My favorite project rifle for myself was a varmint rifle built using 1000 yard benchrest technology in order to get into the Varmint Hunters Association 1000 yard club, but do it shooting California ground squirrels. It was built as a 6 mm wildcat using Norma 7.5X55 Swiss brass necked down, fireformed and fitted for .002" neck clearance. It shoots a 105 Hornady A-Max at 3260 fps and groups around 3" at 1000 yards (in calm conditions). The scope is a Nightforce 8-32X BR and the stock is a Shehane Tracker. Note the look down built into the scope mount. The action and barrel are free floated and the bedding consists of a 9" sleeve epoxied to the barrel and then the flat bottomed sleeve was pillar bedded into the stock. I made it into the club with a kill at 1054 yards. My buddy beat me out with a kill at 1068 yards. It was a very fun project and I learned if I ever shoot the Wimbledon match, it better be in calm conditions.

Damn you guys have some nice shooting irons.

One of my all time favorites, a Howa 1500 Varmint Supreme in .223
Image

My dad normally shoots this one but it is a Remington 700 VS in .223 also.
Image

This is a Howa made S&W in .222 that I shoot PDs with using a 50gr VMax. Makes for s nice splat!

Me? I'm a sucker for neat, old rimfires, like this sporterized Springfield 1922 ...

Or this Remington 241D ...

Enjoy!

I don't have a ton of rifles (compared to shotguns and handguns), but like older .22 rimfires. Partial to Winchester 67's, the perfect beginners rifle, but also have a 57, and a Remington #4 Rolling block in .22 short (a tiny thing). Also recently acquired a Weatherby Mark XXII with the Weatherby scope... how I drooled over that in the 1973 Gun Digest I read until it fell apart. "That's the gun you wanted, and your parents bought you a Marlin 60 with the squirrel pressed in the stock" I told a shooting buddy, right before he uncased his 60...

In centerfire, an plain jane AR and Savage Predator Max in .223. My one centerfire indulgence is a possibly unfired 1939 Savage 99 Takedown in .300 Savage that is probably 99% (they're usually pretty beat).

I like prewar custom 03 Springfields, Model 54 Winchesters, Winchester high walls, and my one and only M1922 custom. My 03 customs are all 30-06, my 54s are .220 Swifts and one 30-06. My high walls are two John Oberlies .22s and an Oberlies 45-70. I do have one Model 70 built by John Oberlies and barrelled by his neighbor, Jerry Gebby, in Gebby's .22 Varminter. I also enjoy my Winchester 52, 61, and 63. My "Big Gun" is a 1917 Enfield 25-06, a 14 pounder built by Walter Morse, the famous bullet maker from Herkimer, New York.

One of my favorites is this 1962 Anschutz .22 with a double set trigger. Since this photo was taken, I have upgraded the scope to a Leupold rimfire and retired the Weaver that was 50 years old. I am the second owner (my Dad was #1), and other than the scope upgrade, I have also refinished the stock and re-cut the checkering. Over the last fifty years, this has been my "bunny gun" as I have a taste for cottontails.
