Some day I will figure out how to easily post pictures on this forum. Over the years I have owned a lot of rifles, but today only 7. I haven't hunted in years, so they are all now for punching paper or knocking down metal targets. .17 though .308. No Magnums for me any more.

I like most types of rifles but, primarily preferring bolt actions for most of my hunting. My bolt gun must possess a short bolt throw, smooth action, adjustable trigger weight that breaks clean, and has very good build quality. They have to be accurate to keep them. I also like synthetic stocks with SS or at least matte barrels. About a dozen or so years I decided to go with a small, medium, and large bolt guns. A Ruger 10/22 handles small game choirs.

Since this is the Browning forum, I'll start with one.

Browning A-bolt .223 Rem with 22" barrel. Scope is a Nikon Monarch 4X16X42mm with Leupold bases and rings and a Browning sling. Trigger has a Timney spring kit and I rounded off the edges of the trigger shoe.

Sako 75 Finnlight .308 Win with a Douglas air gauged 24" SS barrel. Scope is a Ziess Conquest 4.5X14X44mm and Sako Opti-Lock rings and bases and a Browning sling.
Image

Weatherby Accumark .300 Wby Mag with a 26" barrel. Scope is a Ziess Conquest 4.5X14X44mm with Leupold rings and bases and a Browning sling.

I am a fan of Rem 700s, and Sako small action rifles.
And I have some Anschutz rifles that do a great job.

This customized Sub-MOA 257 Weatherby Magnum is my favorite rifle. I put a 4.5 X 14 50 Leupold on it this year. I shoot 500yd prairie dogs, 100-400yd White Tail or Mule Deer.

I was inspired by Riflemeister to try punching paper at 1000yd this spring.

I also have a Tikka M695 6,5x55 and a marlin 60 .22

What kind of scope mounting system on the 03-A3? Did you have to drill any holes?

The 03A3 has a custom Redfield mount which dovetails to the rear receiver sight base; yes holes were drilled and tapped. The scope is a Leupold VX-II 20mm 1-4x post reticle. The work was done by gunsmith Dean Dillibaugh who has since passed away. The gun was my Dad's although not too many original parts remain.

The BAR has a Leupold VX-III 2.5-8x 36mm scope on a Burris mount.

This past year I have customized a Weatherby 300 mag and 6.5 Creedmoor. I also built this 6.5 284 for one mile shooting. We set up a 1,350 yd target range in a friend's back yard. Its been a bucket list item to shoot a mile. This thread prompted me.

Image

This 6.5 284 is built on a Howa long action. The stock is a Boyds. It has a Bartlein 30 inch barrel chambered 6.5 284 Norma with a custom muzzle brake. It is 1/2 MOA. I have shot a few ragged holes and many clover leaves at 100yds. I am grouping 3 out of 5 shots at 12 inches at 1,350 yards. It loves 2,900 feet per second with 49 grains of H4350, Federal GM110M primers, in a Lapua case.

1971 Browning BAR Grade V 30-06, my understanding is that they only made about 600 of these between 1971-1974. It was too expensive to produce due to the amount of engraving on them.

For years I wanted to buy a Grade IV, then I had the opportunity to buy the Grade V instead. I think the grade V is a work of art, as it has the Midas grade pattern, however far more coverage.

Well o can’t post pics unfortunately but this year I bought the Henry long Ranger in 6.5CM with iron sights and a quick release scope mounts from leupold so I can use it as a Bush fun without the scope or as a longer ranger hunting non pro target shooter. It’s beautiful and a pleasure to carry and shoot.
Like the blr it as a magazine but has a free floated barrel.

I doubt that my rifles are prettier than any of yours so I won't photograph any of them. However, I will state that as of a couple of years ago, my favorite rifle is a Winchester Model 70 in 243 WSSM. It has a polymer stock and is a basic rifle with a Vortex scope. The better looking rifle is a Remington 700 in 7mm-08 and wears a Leopold Scope. The scopes cost more than the rifles.

Of the two, the 243 WSSM is my favorite. I realize that the 7mm-08 is more powerful but shot placement is the key to bagging a critter.

For most of my life, I used a 270 of various makes and was happy with the 270. I like change so I went through various calibers over the last 60 years until I settled on the one that hasn't let me down yet, the 243 WSSM.

I am one who ascribes to the principle in Townsend Whelen's quote that only accurate rifles are interesting. So for that reason, I happen to love my Savage Model 16 in 7mm-08. It is a boringly .5 minute of angle rifle (sometimes a bit less) with the loads it likes that I have developed. They are a 120 grain Nosler BT at a chronographed 3,050 fps and 140 grain Nosler Accubond at 2,915 fps. IMO, those are some great ballistics out of a 22 inch barrel. In other words, for me it's pretty is as pretty does!

For a backup and loaner rifle I've got Ruger M77 ultralight original tang safety model in 270win with a rather nice bit of wood on it.

All 4 have 2-7x36 Kahles scopes but the 308s also have 3-10x50 Kahles scopes as well.
Love that glass.

[quote="dbuffington"]Me? I'm a sucker for neat, old rimfires, like this sporterized Springfield 1922 ...

Or this Remington 241D ...

I also own a 241 that was made in 1935. It's not as nice as yours, but still shoots great. Most people mistake it for a Browning and are surprised to learn it is a Remington. I also think the takedown mechanism is superior to the Browning. I'll try to post a picture, if I can figure out how.

My favorite centerfire rifles are my two M70 Fwt (one 1980s push feed .308 and one early 2000s CRF in 6.5X55). Tho, I also like my Ruger M77 (tang safety) in . 280, which is my most accurate. My favorite rimfire is my Cooper 57M Classic in .22 - beautiful and a real shooter.

I sold several Winchester rifles I inherited from my dad to acquire more Browning shotguns...I wasn't using the rifles, love the shotguns, but wish I still had some of those Winchesters back. One I won't sell is a mid-60's Browning FN High Power, 30-06. It's a nice rifle, 3 x 7 Leupold scoped, and shows a few stock scratches from hunting use; otherwise in great shape. I have two Savage bolt action rimfires; a .22 and a .17HMR. Both are equipped with 3 x 9 scopes and the very nice Savage Accutrigger....the .17 is great fun to shoot and a real tack driver of a rimfire. They aren't much to look at but great for plinking around. My grandsons will get all three when they are of age.

I’ve had many calibers and actions from semis to bolts. I’ve tried them for so many different reasons but some of my areas have a max of 270.
My final rifle now is a Henry long ranger in 6.5 Creedmoor as it’s the biggest caliber under 270 in a lever action which I’ve been wanting since it’s quicker than a bolt and more accurate/reliable than a semi. It has iron sights and leupold quick release rings r to be able to remove the scope for bush and walking and put it back on in seconds and return to zero.
With a lifetime warranty I’ve found my rifle.
Unable to post a pic but here’s a link to a close up video on it I posted

1929 model 54 Winchester 270 - great grandfathers, grandfathers, fathers and now my gun. Restocked it into a plain but very nice piece of black walnut cut from my fathers birth farm. It’s a shooter, digesting almost any weight/brand/load and shooting very close to the same spots.

Others:

Ruger m77 tang 24” Shaw barrel 257 ackley - my first deer rifle, dads first push for me to get into reloading as it’s a wildcat. He has one too built on a Mauser action and Shaw barrel.

Model 70 300 win mag - given to me after packing out an elk for a very elderly family friend and hunter.

Marlin 39A 22lr.
