One of my 5 Stand buddies has a 20 gauge Citori from 1977. Stamped on the gun is "One of Ninety Three". It doesn't appear to be a commemorative edition and I have turned up no explanation for this serialization, so I'm hoping someone may be a real Citori historian and be able to shed some light on this. I am not sure if this gun is actually the first of the 93, or if it is just one if the 93. I believe some retailers during this era would purchase a run of guns from various manufacturers and personalize them in various ways to make them distinct to their store, but there's no indication on the gun that it was special to any retailer. Does anyone have any ideas? We're more interested in explaining the "One of Ninety Three" stamping than getting it valued, but if anyone had any thoughts about what its current market value might be please pass it along. 28" barrels, fixed chokes, 3"chambers, and pretty plain wood.

Do you have any pictures or a serial number?

No pictures at the moment. It's not my gun, so not readily available. It's pretty plain looking, no side plates, no engraving, standard grade wood.just a normal Citori Hunter. SN# 04900RRJ63.
Unless you have access to different information than what Browning had made available to the public, I don't think the SN info will help solve the mystery of the "one of ninety three", but I'll take anything you can cine up with.

J63 is a 3" 20 gauge grade 1 gun. Who knows what the 1 of 93 is. Possibly a special run from a broker or organizations.

Yes, I've had no issue translating the RRJ63 into a 1977 20ga with 3" chambers. What I'm hoping someone may know about is the one of 93 indication. That's the only thing which isn't known. Who knows what it means? I don't know, that's why I posted the question.

Wonderful information, thank you for locating this link. This is exactly what I was looking for but wasn't able to locate in my searches. I appreciate your help with this! The gun spent most of its life in Iowa, which is a hell of a lot closer to Missouri than Vermont, where it now resides.
Thanks again. It feels good to have solved the riddle.
