There was never an “N” prefix. Most likely you are seeing half of “FN” above the serial number. You can confirm the date by the code on the barrel.

I’d love to, but I don’t see the pictures.

I can tell you that there are no serial numbers on Japanese barrels. They have numbers — I think of them as inventory numbers — but they’re not serial numbers. They wouldn’t match the actual serial number on the gun’s receiver.

OK, it looks like you’ve got a special version of Auto-5. I believe that to be an early Superlight. And the trigger plate is aluminum, not chrome. I’ll have to refer to “The Book” for more information, and that will be a while. But this subject has been researched before, so do a search on this site.

I can’t date it from the serial number. If there were more pictures I could get a ballpark estimate. But there should be a letter among the proof marks on the barrel that is the date code.

Not what I’m looking for. I need the proof marks, and they look like this:

Image

In this example the date code is the letter pi and it translates to 1957

Hold on, forget about the proof marks. You said your barrel was made in Japan. Those barrels don’t have Belgian proof marks or a date code. Post some pictures of the receiver and I’ll try to give you a ballpark number.
