Those bidding are doing it to themselves. But why? It’s a paltry sum for a money laundering operation. But I can’t think of another reason.
Around here, I haven't seen 12 or 20 g shotgun shells on the shelves for 3 months. Well- I see Bismouth, but no target stuff. Sometimes I hear about a load that arrived 'yesterday' and sold out within 4 hours- even with a 2 box limit set by gun shop to try to be fair.
I agree- ammo prices are INSANE right now. I've seen a 500 rd brick of .22lr general HV ammo going for over $100, when it should bring arond $25-30 at most.
I saw .45acp range [not SD or high end target- just plinking] ammo going for around $75 a box of 50- instead of $25-30 [and I remember buying around $15-17 a box].
Ammo is just insane.
In CA, there are new ammo laws. If it weren't for that, I might be tempted to sell some to pay off an auto repair. However, I wouldn't sleep well, and I worry I might not be able to replace it easily later.
Just- crazy.
As to the Auto-5, I am lucky.
I picked up mine about 3 - 3.5 years ago at a LGS for around $350.
1948/49 FN made 12g w/ 29.5" barrel and in decent shape. I had the buttpad replaced, as the one on it was rotting- that is what got me the lower price.
Now though, the same condition seems to go for around $800 or more.
Just crazy.
