I recently purchased a shotgun brand Browning Side Lock (BSL) model LC2 to a auction in Austria, 12 gauge and the 918CS01060 number.

I've tried to learn many searches and requests for help in various specialized forums to know what year of production and still can not.

I know that "918" sets the 12 gauge.
These weapons initiated each year with the number 1000 and so this was 60 that year.
I admit that the letters "CS" set the year of production, but I can not get this information.

Can anyone help?

If you want to enjoy can see it on my collection site: http://armasfinas.blogs.sapo.pt/ and http://armasfinas.blogs.sapo.pt/brownin ... ally-27441

Thank you,

I'm pretty sure that "CS" stands for "Custom Shop". There's no date code on specialty items, I'd contact Browning.

Many thanks for the information.

I look forward to succeed with the Browning and they indicate the year of production of the rifle.

Regards,
Luis

When I use the link on the first page I can't find any information for the Browning Maxus. Where can I get a manufacture date for the Maxus?

Are you sure about this? Here are the date codes from page 5 of the linked PDF file.

In 1975 Browning began using the two (2) letter code
system (located in the middle of the serial number) for
determining the year of manufacture. For example "PN"
would be "89" indicating 1989.

LETTER NUMBER
Z 1
Y 2
X 3
W 4
V 5
T 6
R 7
P 8
N 9
M 10

According to this, my Maxus (115MNxxxxx) was built in 2019. Obviously, that's not possible. By the way, there was no mention of the Maxus anywhere in the PDF file.

I'm not sure about the Maxus, it's a pretty new design. But those are the date codes, they may have changed or are not used for that gun. Some guns, such as my Browning Classic, don't have a date code. It has "BC" instead. Luistc's gun has "CS" which I believe means Custom Shop.

In my case, I know that these guns were made in 1984, but there's no way to tell from the serial number.

The letter "M" is not 10, it is 0.

Just saying.

One of the few flaws of an otherwise excellent reference...

Well, that's not what the PDF says, but it does make sense. That would put the manufacture date of my Maxus at 2009.

Thanks Gliderman

PDF is wrong. I have seen other Browning Serial references and they all say "M" is 0. My 425 was made in 2000 and it has an "MM".

Despite the various contributions and clues given, I still could not determine the production date of my Browning Model BSL recorded by LC2 "Lebeau-Courally" with nr. 918CS01060 number and 12 gauge http://armasfinas.blogs.sapo.pt/brownin ... ally-27441

If they can some information, I really appreciate the help.

Thank you!
Luis

Luistc, as I said, I don't believe you can determine the date from your serial number, as it is from the Custom Shop. A call to Browning is in order. Since you are in Portugal, that might be difficult. I'll give them a call next week and let you know what they say.

Rudolph31,

I am very happy and grateful if you can get the production date of my Browning. I get anxious waiting.

I regret not being able to connect to Browning because I do not speak English. I can write because they use translation software, then I apologize for any difficulty of communication.

Thank you!
Luis

Luis:

Bon dia! I will call Browning on Monday, but their website says the Sidelock version of the BSS was produced from 1983-1987.
