Does someone know if the chamber and the barrel of a Rem V3 walnut are chrome lined

Yep, I don't know how expensive a process that is, but at the V3's price point that shouldn't come as a big surprise or disappointment, IMO.

It is actually quite cheap-- for decades, the very cheapest Turkish shotguns made have had chrome-lined barrels.

That's interesting. Wonder if Remington considered it?

Thanks for the info. That was my impression.

Now I have guns which all have chrome lined barrels.
I guess I should cleaned chamber and barrel after each use
and run the tico with light oil. And clean before next use?

I have had a few with chrome lined barrels, and dozens without the lining. I never saw any difference in fouling or required maintenance. Of course if any gun got wet it got thoroughly cleaned and dried. That goes back to the early '60s.

Chrome-lining sounds cool, I suppose. Yet, the most popular shotguns in history: Model 12, 870, 1100, Automatic-Five have never had them.

Bruce Buck covered this some time back: https://shotgunreport.com/2013/08/05/ch ... ned-bores/

Quote:
Basically there are two choices when a manufacturer prepares a shotgun bore. You can polish it like crazy to get a smooth finish or you can polish it a little bit and then get the final finish by chroming. Both methods work. The chroming method requires more involved equipment, but it’s faster and less labor intensive once everything is set up.

I’ve never really been able to tell if one method picks up less plastic and lead than the other. It’s for sure that cheaper guns get the chrome bores and more expensive ones are standard polished metal. None of the English Bests are chromed, nor are the Belgian Brownings, Krieghoffs, Perazzis or high end SO Berettas. Beretta autos get chromed bores, but Remington and Winchester autos don’t (though that’s certainly not a high end/ low end comparison). I don’t have a current list of who is chroming and who isn’t.

Is there anything one could or should do to a chamber or barrel to protect it for long term use? A DIY V3 Waterfowl Pro sort of project? Or not needed?

I love my chrome lined barrel shotguns. The plastic from the wads comes loose and out much easier on those guns. Even my Russian Baikal / Remington 12ga has the chrome lined barrels. No reason not to IMHO.

I prefer gold plating my barrels, but no one seems
to offer them. Wait, maybe its gold triggers I like,
can't seem to remember.

I know this is a old thread , but a gun that shot trap and sporting clay professionally once told me to never stick a brush in your barrel unless you always wanted to bush your barrels . He said it put scratches in it and that allowed fouling to collect in there .

 He may have been a pro shooter but his advice is strictly amateurish. Unless the brush is a steel harsh enough to scratch quality steel; I don't see how it is possible. Even Tornado brushes which are a spring steel do nothing to scratch barrels and have been used for decades. He may be simply justifying the fact that some shooters that shoot constantly, never clean a shotgun barrel. They count on the next shots to clean it for them.

I would label this falsehood as way out there!
