New owner as well as new forum member . I've lurked around quite often though , got alot of knowledge before I joined .
Like to get more involved with shooting clays, we normally just shoot the heck out of em , but nothing serious besides little dollar bets and Annie Oakley matches. Anyway ....I've always borrowed someones gun(I'm a gun guy, but handguns have always been my forte), whether it was my brother in laws 3200, or my buddies benelli . Figured it was time to go on the hunt for my own semi auto (to po' for an o/u just yet) found a local seller of a remington 1187 premier left handed(lc barrel) one modified choke, graco adj comb and country gentleman adj butt plate(cant confirm the butt plate). We will see, hopefully it will help me become a better shooter, and I can really start delving into sporting clays. Also please let me know what I should carry in my range case as far as extra parts may be needed .

Should be a very good clays gun. All the adjustability should be a big help. Now you need to find someone to help fit the gun to you.

Very nice shotgun. Make a couple pattern boards and see where it shoots.

An 870 ?

I wouldn’t think anything could go wrong that you would be able to repair while at the range.

I always have a spare shotgun, but then all I shoot is older shotguns. Something is always going awry.

Any parts you buy, you will never need.

Exactly Virginian, you can buy every part but one, and I’ll guarantee that’s the one that’ll break.

My son's LH 1187 blew out one of the ports below the gas spring. That turned it into a single shot.
You may want a barrel seal activator if it ever comes to that. Much cheaper than a new barrel. It will only be for target loads with it installed though. Other than that it has survived his abuse.

I MIGHT ( but probably not ) take a pump as the sole gun on a hunting trip, but NEVER a SA.

Anything mechanical can have problems.

Only twice has a shotgun let me down to the point of needing a gunsmith, both times an O/U. A Beretta and a Huglu.

It is not that difficult to replace an excess gas relief port.

Very nice. I own a LH 1100 and LH 870. How long is the barrel?

I hear anti-Remington people complain about O rings in 1100's and 1187's. I guess you could carry an extra O ring.

That`s a real reach for something to complain about. If memory serves it took me , what, 15 seconds to change an O ring on my 1100 when I had one?

I would carry a extra O ring and barrel seal they usually break in the middle of a sporting clays shoot.

I replaced the original metal 'V' ring on my 1963 model 1100 about 1966 so I wouldn't lose it, and elastomer seals better. Over 105,000 rounds later it is still truckin'. They do not move in service, and 99.99% that are damaged, are damaged during disassembly or reassembly. I got one on an LT20 running my mouth while taking it apart. Office chair wheel has gotten two more on the concrete floor.

Absolutely. Could not agree more. Particularly if one doesn`t go to the trouble to take all of the minute or so it takes to check them during normal cleaning and maintenance.
