I assume this refers to an outright purchaser of the entire company as opposed to bidders in the auction process.

No, it doesn't suggest that at all. It suggests no bidders for Remington firearms. Ilion mayor Brian Lamica could not possibly care less about Remington ammo, which looks to be already sold.

That`s interesting Randy. While true that the firearms division was not specifically named in the quote, I took your Monday , September 14th, 2:00 PM post to be a hopeful and encouraging sign for Remington.

I suspect 200 years of environmental issues might keep any buyer away from the Ilion factory

There is no evidence of environmental issues. https://www.timestelegram.com/news/2020 ... e-in-ilion

From 2017, Bill Conners for the Poughkeepsie Journal:

Quote:
It was just three years ago that — when firearms manufacturers couldn’t keep up with demand — Remington announced that it would be creating production capacity in Huntsville, Alabama. Shortly thereafter, the Ilion workforce was reduced.

When Remington Outdoor Company announced plans for its new facility, which would be housed in an old Chrysler Corp. plant, CEO George Kollitides said that the new facility would create 2,000 new jobs in Huntsville over the next 10 years. Many industry observers saw that as an ominous sign for the Herkimer County workforce. Governor Cuomo’s war on gun owners was going to produce causalities in the Mohawk Valley.

At the time of the Huntsville announcement, company officials — along with elected officials — offered feint-hearted assurances that the new facility would not impact staffing in Ilion.

For almost a decade, gun owners had been hoarding both guns and ammunition. Every time members of congress would engage in saber rattling on the gun rights front, sales would spike. In some respects, however, there were a few changes at the federal level that actually loosened controls; one example was being able to have a loaded gun in some national parks.

Gun owners see the Trump Administration as a firewall against tightening of controls, although recent events raise doubts about just how long the pro gun control forces can be kept at bay.

As for Remington, New York’s SAFE Act — the New York Secure Ammunition and Firearms Enforcement Act of 2013 — pushed Remington to look elsewhere when they decided that they had to expand capacity to meet demand. If they had simply retrofitted the Ilion facility to produce their full product line, it is possible that most of the 2,000 jobs promised for Huntsville would be created here in New York.

I'll speculate that no one wants to manufacture in New York State, and why would they?

And yet, there are companies who do: Kimber, Turnbull and Just Right Carbines are three I know about.

The question is if they want to and would they expand in NY?

Whatever happened, already happened. After the hearing on the 23rd, everyone will know the results.

How soil samples “look” is absolutely no indication of their condition unless it’s petroleum contamination. The laboratory results will reveal anything unseen

I don't care to debate theoretical Herkimer County soil, there is no evidence of a problem and with no sale, it is moot. After all, the Cerberus Capital Management acquisition wasn't from 100 or 200 years ago, it happened in 2007.

NY is no place to make firearms, today. Kimber apparently feels that way.

That’s true, Randy, but the very reason that they are being sent to a lab is to detect things that are not obviously visible. Hopefully, nothing will come of it.

This is not Remington, this is the former Duofold property, that already has had three environmental studies

Quote:
Background

Site details: Located at 7 Spruce St., near an Erie Canal bike path and Routes 5 and 5S, the Duofold site is 14 acres in size and is classified as a brownfield with known contaminants.
Unsafe structure: The building itself has been vacant for about 15 years; there have been a number of fires in the building, while break-ins over the years have stripped it of implements such as copper wiring. The building has since been deemed unsafe to enter.

Environmental concerns

There have been three environmental studies of the site:

1990: Environmental Protection Agency (EPA)
2014: New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC)
2017: EPA

In 2010, the Ilion Project -- an initiative spear-headed by a former village resident -- involved a grant-funded study as part of a larger evaluation of various areas in Ilion, including those on Spruce Street. The study's claims linked the property to an unusual rate of local residents suffering from diseases such as cancer, multiple sclerosis and autoimmune diseases.

Clocking in at 374 pages, the 2017 EPA study included the following findings:

Contamination is fairly widespread in the surface soil, with concentrated amounts near the main building.
Groundwater contaminants include volatile organic compounds and the following metals: Iron, manganese, selenium and soil.

OK, I was confused. I thought we were talking about a Remington property.

23rd or 24th regardless, I assume we should know the disposition of Remington Arms by week`s end.

Hopefully they get a bidder for all their divisions.

Absolutely. One of Randy`s updates ( Monday, September 14th ) in which he posted a quote from some source seemed to indicate that they might have, although later posts seemed to cast some doubt on that. Regardless, we`ll know soon.

The Auction, if required, will be held on September 17, 2020 at 10:00 a.m. (CT) virtually via video-conference technology. (It was held-- it is all over with.)

The Bankruptcy Court will hold a hearing to consider approval of the sale on September 23, 2020 at 10:00 a.m. (CT).

All that remains is for the court to approve things, or not.

I`m curious as to what, if any , significance the re-scheduling might have insofar as the conduct or substance of the bidding process or is it simply for the convenience of all or some of the parties involved.
