I have an 11-87 20ga Compact Sportsman and I would like to put a full size butt stock on it. There's the problem. When I look at stocks some say they fix 870, some say 1100, some say 11-87 and some say they fit 870, 1100 and 11-87. So where lies the truth? Most of the stocks I'm finding are designated for the 870.

Earlier 1100 and 11-87 stocks had a larger hole than the 870 to accommodate the action tube. 870s only had a hole big enough to pass the bolt thru, which was drilled deeper to use a shorter bolt than the action tube. Then they changed the 870 stocks to fit the semis also, and used a longer bolt.

So unless an 870 says it will fit an 11-87 it might, or might not depending on when it was manufactured? I was looking at one of the laminated 870 butt stocks that CDNN is selling right now as a possible. The ad doesn't imply that it fits anything other than an 870. One to avoid?

"Probably" will fit, but I would call them and ask how big the hole is.

If it's a laminate stock it will likely fit fine. From what I found no main manufacturer used laminate prior to 1987.

Virginian, any idea when Remington changed the 870 stocks?
