The Locking Block Assembly on my 11-87 shotgun developed a crack. Has anyone else had this issue? I have a new part ordered. See link for photo. https://drive.google.com/file/d/1iX_XUK ... sp=sharing

Pic won't show. I have seen the pin(s) break.

Haven't seen that before. I can only ever recall seeing one broken actual block, and that was on a relatively new 870, and it was split in two lengthwise. Have no idea what would have caused that. Remington sent me a new one and requested the broken one back.

This is interesting. Thanks for the pic. Haven’t seen this before. I have 3 high mileage 11/87s with no damage. Can you estimate the age of the gun and how many rounds through it?

I have seen lugs break off on Turkish autos but never on a Remington but of course it could happen , pop a new one in and don’t look back.

I was competing in a tactical match at the time. The bolt seemed to be stuck. So I put it on safe and did the mortar drill similar to what is done with an AR15 that is stuck. I'm not sure if it was already fractured or if that is what fractured it. I'm hoping that the new part causes it to run again. The gun is approximately 20 years old. I have not kept track of the number of rounds. It gets shot quite a bit though. It is not a safe queen.

I have to ask, what is “the mortar drill”?

I have seen the type of failure in the picture, in person, once; and I have shot Remington 870's and 1100's since the mid 1970's.

It was at the local club I belong to. It was an 11-87 Trap, failed in the exact, same way.

I don't know if it was due to a flaw or the reloading practices of the older gent that owned it. Shall we say he was not a follower of the loading manuals and did not own a scale, his exact words, "You've got to load them so the GET OUT THERE!!!!"

Yep... Done that too! Mine was a 1100 12ga made in 1977. Bolt locking lug broke completely into at the same spot as in the picture. Just one of the many other parts that was replaced due to being broken or worn out.

Possibly caused by excessive headspace. The locking slot in the barrel may have been stretched by the block, then the bolt gets a running start before the block stops it. Enough of that and something will give.
