I have a Remington 11-87 12 Gauge SP with the wood stock and matte type of finish .
The Shotgun has a Fully Rifled Cantilevered barrel on it.

Will a Remington 1100 Barrel work on this 11-87 ?

Thanks

I used the link you sent and Although it seemed as though it was mainly talking about using an 1187 barrel on a Magnum Reciever and 20 Gauge Loads By looking at Virginians first reply to the subject ,that the Remington 1100 12 Gauge barrels and the Remington 11-87 12 Gauge Barrel are the same ?

The reason I asked is some sites say they will interchange and some sites say they dont .

Now that I know that a Remington 1100 Barrel will work on the Remington 11-87 I can Look for a Used Remington 1100 smoothbore barrel for the 11-87 Shotgun.

I am wanting to be able to use buckshot with the 11-87 and from my understanding the Fully Rifled Barrel that is on the Shotgun will not Pattern well with buckshot even at 10 yards or less ,as in Home defense

Thanks for the Link,I did not want to buy a barrel I could not use !

Reading comprehension D.
The 1100 and 11-87 barrels are NOT the same. The barrel gas rings are different. They will fit on the receivers interchangeably, but the fore ends will not fit properly in most cases. Some early 11-87s did come with a stepped mortise that would allow either, Remington quickly changed that practice.

My reading comprehension was never great !

Just to be clear though ,I want to know what I need to do to be able to use a Remington 12 Gauge 2 3/4 1100 barrel on my Remington 11-87 12 Gauge Shotgun.

Whether the terminology is Identical,Interchangeable, close enough for Government work etc ,I just want to be able to use an 1100 12 Gauge 2 3/4 inch barrel on this 11-87 Shotgun as 1100 barrels seem to be easier to find.

The Link and description are talking about using a 11-87 barrel on a 1100 shotgun or using a cantilever barrel on a LT 20 which is not my circumstance.

Aside from possibly having to open up the extractor slot on the Remington 1100 Barrel so it will work with the 11-87 extractor which, I will do myself if needed.
And IF the forend will work and hold the barrel tightly.
If not, what is an easy remedy to the forend ?
Is it similiar to the LT 20 ,in that I could just use the existing 11-87 Forend and Just make a spacer ?

I do not know when this 11-87 was made,Only know that the reciever is Marked SP with a matte type of finish and a non shiny finish on the wood.
With Cantilever Fully rifled barrel.

I have not even got the shotgun from my FFL dealer yet.

Measure the difference in the length of the gas ring on both barrels. Place 1100 barrel on receiver. Make a shim equal in length, or +1/32", on the magazine tube in front of the gas ring. A slice of PVC or CPVC pipe the right size works well. Install fore end, tighten mag cap. Make sure the fore end is holding the barrel tightly to the receiver. That is what I did when installing an 11-87 stock set on my LT 20 Magnum. Works fine.
