Post subject:  I want to relocate the recoil spring on my 1100

Hi,

I want to relocate the recoil spring on my Remington 1100.

I had thought that if I swapped a 870 action assembly and added a spring to the gap between the receiver this may work.

Alternatively using the existing 1100 action assembly and boring it out to take a spring this may also work.

Does anyone know if a 870 action assembly would fit a 1100 receiver ... and if it doesn’t how close is it to fitting.

I don’t own a 870 to be able to check for myself.

Any help appreciated. :D

There are a lot of differences between the 1100 and the 870. Differences in the trigger group and the receiver.
Look down below at the post on the Sage Tactical 1100 to see one way to relocate the spring.

I have looked at the post you mentioned... wow that is exactly what I was thinking of.

Apart from looks like they built a whole new action bar assembly ... which I would prefer not to do.

Think I’m going to Frankenstein a 1100 action bar assembly and lengthen the arms ... and bore it out.

That way I can keep all the gas operation complete.

That should work ... :)

What is the point? What are you trying to accomplish?

Or, you could just buy a Remington V3.

So my point of doing this would be to make it possible to fit a more varied selection of stocks.

Currently the recoil tube pertrudes along way out the back of the receiver and this limits what stocks will fit.

I like the 870 magpul stocks ... by removing the recoil tube I would be able to fit it.

I have a sentimental attachment to the 1100 ... and also I just love it’s build quality.

I don’t know anything about the V3.

The Sage Tactical used a standard action sleeve and possibly slightly modified action bars. (I have only had one of theirs in my hands that I recall)

You can't do it, within reason anyway. A man has to know his limitations. When it comes to 1100s , the limitation is "you got to use 1100 stocks, pretty much if not entirely".

That Sage Tactical gun sort of refutes this.
