The news article I shared isn’t from Remarm’s page. The past has proven that NOT ONE PERSON on this site has any real knowledge of what’s going on behind closed doors at Remington. They aren’t negotiating a collective bargaining agreement for their health... Certain people who’ve posted about Remington in the past have been dead wrong before. Personally, I hope that trend continues. No truly innovative product is ever dead as long as there is demand for it... JMO

The entire, international firearms industry has spoken loudly, clearly with one voice for the last year: Remington Ilion is not worth $13M and cannot be made viable. So said Mossberg, Ruger, Sig, Browning / Herstal, S & W, Ruger, Beretta, Savage, and every significant small arms manufacturer in the world.

They have all been absolutely correct.

So let’s say that they hire some people and stick their toe in the water. Starting again is going to require an enormous amount of cash. They either fund their operating cash needs or they try to borrow it. I can’t imagine a lender making such a loan unless the business plan is so full of fluff that it’s laughable. We will see......

That would be interesting to know. It`s been reported that they were supposed to do so. I would suppose that that would be newsworthy.

ILION, N.Y. – The company that now owns the former Remington plant, received the OK Friday to move its remaining assets from its facility in Alabama to Ilion.

The sooner the equipment is moved to the Ilion facility, the sooner Roundhill Group can restart operations and bring employees back to work.

Roundhill Group has 45 days to empty and clean the Huntsville facility in Alabama. Attorneys say the first truck will arrive on April 5, and be loaded by April 12.

Everything must be removed from the Huntsville location by May 14.

I can’t understand why they are moving back NY, most gun unfriendly state in the union.

Point?

Shotguns and rifles were being made in Ilion to begin with. Huntsville was making handguns and ARs. Ilion can run basically the entirety of the early 2010s catalog without a single piece of equipment from Huntsville.

They probably don't have much choice. Roundhill most likely would have problems paying for a new facility and training a new workforce. The Ilion factory is equipped, it came with the deal and some of the trained workforce is still available. This option is the quickest and most economical way to get started building guns again. Financing a new factory and training a mostly new workforce would destroy whatever chance of success they have at this point.

Because the asset purchase agreement required them to rehire some of the former employees. I suspect the main reason many other firearm companies passed on acquiring the Remington firearm assets was the requirement of being tied to the former union employees and the plant location. For example, the Marlin brand did not have this requirement and those assets were moved and were integrated into Ruger’s operation. If all the Remington firearm manufacturing assets could have been picked up, moved, and the buildings sold, we may have had a completely different result and bidding interest. Not sure why one would agree to that since when you typically buy company assets, as opposed to an entire company with employees, you buy the physical items less the people. Aka Marlin. You may offer key people jobs to relocate, but no obligation to do so.

There is no need to attempt mind-reading. No one made anyone create yet another Roundhill hedge fund and no one forced the latest version of Roundhill to bid on anything. Whether it is just a grab it and flip it maneuver or not is unknown. Archegos Capital was a $10 Billion 'family office' that just lost billions. Credit Suisse just took a $4.7 billion hit on Ilion is just chump-change to hedge funds. Bridgewater Associates manages $138 billion. The former Remington site in Ilion is just a rounding error asset class to a hedge fund.

"RemArms," like all companies, is for sale. Whether anyone in the industry wants it, or even a portion of it is another matter.

Image

Scott Soura has formed and dissolved several Roundhills in the past, most with one employee: Scott Soura. This is just another one. They don't seem to last very long. Roundhill Group LLC was deemed inactive since 2002, apparently resurrected (again) for the RemArms Follies.

I wouldn't be surprised if the plan was to get Ilion back up and running for a bit, and try to shop around to different states for tax breaks and incentives, and subsequently move the whole operation somewhere else ASAP. That would obviously be quite a bit easier than starting completely from scratch somewhere else at this point.

Particularly manufacturing, and particularly guns.

Way back in 2017, before the earth's crust had cooled and people had hot and cold running water, the spectacular fall of 1330 employees to 920 employees was loudly lamented. Today, well . . . no one needs thermometer to know how sick Ilion is.

Seems to follow the timeline and actual number of employees they had in Alabama.

High Standard was once a major producer of guns, both under its own name and for Sears. The name still exists as a brand, though few people notice or buy their guns.

Winchester was once one of the greatest manufacturers of guns in history. Lots of Winchester guns are sold these days, but the brand mostly exists as a marketing device for a parent company.

Even SKB, a relatively minor player in the gun manufacturing business still exists as a brand name, even though the former manufacturer is gone.

Names and brands have value. I suspect that Remington will continue to exist as a brand in some form. But I also suspect the new Remington won't be anything like the once great gun manufacturer. Will you be able to buy a Remington gun? Sure. Whether you will want it is an entirely different question.

What are they doing in New York? Who knows. Maybe they're getting ready to receive a shipment of Chinese made "Remington 870" shotguns and peddle them to distributors. Could be anything.

Vista owns the Remington brand, they have already pumped tons of cash into Lonoke. They run 24 hours a day and have essentially DOUBLED the number of employees since November . . . that was as of Feb. 5th: "The Lonoke operation now has nearly 800 workers, a company spokesman said Thursday, nearly doubling its worker count from November. He said the company is continuing to hire and and train new workers to meet demand while being mindful of social distancing and other coronavirus precautions at the plant."

It is full speed ahead for the brand:

I guess I was thinking about guns. Are you suggesting that only Vista can sell guns with the name Remington? If so, then why are we discussing the gun factory reopening.

Sorry, serious question.
