Thanks for the reply … but don't think that's the difference.

Best I can tell the J6869H0 is a target gun, with a nice satin finish on the wood. The J686SJ0 is a hunting gun, with the darkest, muddiest, dullest wood finish I have ever seen on a Beretta.

Thanks Randy
As far as I can tell the J6869H0 and the J686SJ0 are both Sporting models..
J686SJ0 is the (new) model with a different type of engraving and possible a little different finish on the stock.....The new model is actually less expensive by a few dollar...J686SJ0 is the sporting model.
This is what Beretta customer service came up with after several questions to make clear the new model number.
Thanks
Randy Rogers

I am looking at a BTA 686 S PIGEON 1 SPT 12M /30 MC

What does the MC stand for. It also says Chokes OCHP IM MOD IC CYL SKEET, sounds like optima chokes.

Have a dealer ordering it. He does not do a lot of shotguns but giving me a good price.

Not sure what MC stands for in your example. I would have guessed Mobile Choke but you state Chokes OCHP. Ask your dealer..

I have one of the newest SP Sporting guns. The stock has some kind of laser checkering instead of real checkering. Checkering feels sharp but is ugly when inspected closely. The best feature is the barrels. They are the latest Optima HP choked and have the very long tapered lower portion of the barrel rather than visible forcing cones. And the barrels are pretty lightweight. Another thing is that the barrel weight in not stamped on the barrels like it used to be. Maybe the proof laws changed? Does not look like an oil finish to me. I really like my new gun but I did put a different stock and fore end on it since I needed an adjustable comb and got a good deal on a stock.
