I'm trying to find info on a 28ga. pertaining to the frame/action size. Seems some barrels are on 28ga frames and some are on 20ga frames. Can the serial number tell which frame is used without seeing the gun? Can anyone that has the small frame give me the measurements? Thanks

Which Beretta gun are you asking about? What measurement(s) are you needing. I have the 686 in 28ga if that is the gun you are referring to. I also have the A400 Xplor in 28ga.

There is a small frame 28, sold as a 28 ga or as a 28/ .410 combo. There is also a 20 ga frame sold as a 20 or 20/28 combo. I have a small frame 686 28 ga. field gun.

Dang.. should have stated I'm looking for info on the silver pigeon guns. I think the 680 series are probably all the same... not sure of this though.
I have a silver pigeon 20ga and would like to know the width, length and height of the frame for comparison. thanks

I get a depth of 2.110" from immediately behind the bbls to the bottom of he receiver. 1.377" width at the shoulders, and a length of 3.180" from wood to forearm shoulder, measured parallel to the receiver bottom at the hinge pin centerline.

686 silver pigeon 28 ga. field grade. This is the small or baby frame receiver, not the 20 ga. receiver.

There are 3 sizes of 68x receivers. 12, 20, and 28 / .410 baby frame.

I have the two barrel field 20/28 combo.

My measurements with dial caliper are in John H's above order 2.215", 1.60" and 3.105". The big difference is the width at the shoulders.

I have a 1" Pachmayr Decelerator pad added to uncut wood to give me a 15 1/8" LOP. The weights in this configuration are 6#1.6oz with the 20 gauge barrels and 6#5.4oz with the 28 gauge barrels.

I consistently break more targets with 3/4 oz 1200 fps loads from the 28 gauge barrels than with 7/8 oz 1200 fps loads with the 20. My best guess is that the gun balances better with the 28 gauge barrels.
