Had this for a long time.
I was never a hunter so i rarely pulled it out.

Can anyone tell me what Beretta
I have?
What shells it prefers, if any?
Any other pertinent info?

Thanks in advance. ImageImageImage

Beretta 409 Silver Hawk. Made during the late 1950's into 1960's. Should be fine with modern ammo. I wouldn't shoot steel shot out of it. Probably choked Mod/Full if it has 28 inch bbls. Extractors. Worth between 1200-1450.

Silver Hawk. Imported by J.L. Galef, NYC. Circa 1950’s - 1970 approximately. 16 gauge should take 2 3/4 inch shells. Well made guns that preceded the 626 series.

Take it apart and look on the barrel and action flats for proofs and any stampings. Chokes are usually marked on the barrel flats. I don’t think that imported guns of this period needed to have the importers name stamped on the gun, but I’d look just in case.

An ad from the 60’s shows the gun selling at $167.50 retail. You can find the ad on google.

Thanks for the quick replies.
I’ll take it apart and look for the info.

Unfortunately I have about 2 cases of 2 3/4 steel shot.
Being in CA, it’ll be a struggle to buy any decent quantity of other ammo.
It’ll take a while, anyway.

Thanks again.
Cheers.

You might be able to shoot steel in smaller sized shot. Look for SP on any marking. SP is steel shot proofed. Might be worth a call to Coles in Maine.

I believe that there are some other non-toxic options that you could use. That's a beautiful Beretta!

You'll likely need to find some bismuth shot for that one. Enjoy it!

With a price of $167.50 in 1965 when corrected for inflation that comes up to $1,384.01.

Looking better all the time. Very nice looking shotgun.
