I added +/- 7 oz. of shot and weight to the buttstock of my A400 20 ga. with 28" barrel. This changed the balance point from about 1" on the fore end to just to the front of the loading port. But when I went to weight it, it came back as 6.51 lbs. I checked it because it still felt very light to me compared to my 12 ga.

I added the same weight to my A300 Outlander Sporting with 30" barrel and it weighs 7.91lbs., which I like, but still seems light compared to what its listed weight is. Balance point moved backward on it too, about the same as the A400.

The weight I added to both was 6 3/4 oz of #8 shot, a plastic nickel coin container that I taped up both ends and then some microfiber cloth to pad it in the buttstock.

Based on the listed weights of 7.5 lbs. for both guns, I had hopes of getting them closer or just over 8 lbs. Other than adding a counter weight on the mag cap, are there any other suggestions why I am not seeing the weights I expected or to increase the weight better?

Thanks,

JD

The A400 xcel 20 gauge with 30 inch barrels is just a hair over 6 lbs from the factory. Try weight up front and back. Weigh the gun on the butt holding it vertical. What kind of scale? Use a postal scale. Bathroom scales aren't the best.

Using digital fishing scale (max. 20 lb.s) and verified it is close to accurate. Thanks for the feedback.

Buy an 8oz C&G weight or Graco weight that screws on the stock bolt. Add a heavier Beretta weight silver) to the Factory magazine ca.

You can add this. I also had a comb cut into my a300 sporting and an adjustable plate along with a new pad. And then to balance it I’m going to add a Briley weighted magazine cap. When it’s all done it’ll be about 8.5lbs.
