Thank You! I searched High and Low to find info on this. I appreciate your help. I keep wondering if Beretta will have a new 400 series semi soon. Don’t know what they would improve, but they always do that. Guus like you are what make this a great forum.

It's all marketing. With each new iteration comes the addition of more plastic, cost cutting, and a higher price.

And a different style of choke tubes so you have to buy new ones

Also the great stocks made out of who knows what with a picture of wood grain on them and trigger pull weights in the 7-8 lb range.
IMO other than the thinner forearm profile on the 391 there's been no "improvement" since the 390.

And only 3 factory chokes instead of 5. See cost cutting. Then you need to have trigger work and get rid of the terrible bolt release button. You need to put an additional $200 in these guns out of the box to make them bearable for target work.

So don’t buy them!

Coles makes what you are asking for. Thats alot of $$ for a semi however.

Not for a reliable gun in my opinion that will last for a few decades and be easy on the shoulder.

I've had my 391 for decades. I have replaced just about every part once or more. The new A400 reminds me of a soaker gun toy with all that plastic. We shall see.

For me I don’t want to spend big dollars for real and upgraded wood on a semi. My A400 excel has performed extremely well and reliably through its first 20K rounds of action. I had a trigger issue early on that was a defective piece replaced under warranty and I goofed on reassembly early on and damaged the piston ring.

I don’t love spending close to $2000 for a competition semi but my experience with my prior 391 Teknys and current A400 excel have been awesome. I shoot the gas guns better than O/U too so it all works. Have heard good things about Fabarm L4S as well in the same general price range but have never shot one

If I am going to spend more than $2K than it will be significantly more and a mid range O/U

No kidding.....not too sure how black ceracote holds up. I have a factory black A400. If you buy a cole stock of will cost almost as much as the gun.

You can stumble on a new old stock 391 black gold every once in a while for half the price.
