All,

I am not a big fan of the Schnabel forend. Does anyone have a resource or knowledge of how I can get a rounded forend for this gun? I have tried searching the Google and have not had much luck.

I know people that have sanded off the Schnabel on their guns. If you're fussy, it might require a refinish.

Coles offers a service to excise that hideous Schnabel off of the forend. (I hate them also!) It is obviously a routine request as it is listed as a regular service and for only $125! That is what I recommend.

I have a stock set that has a rounded fore end listed for sale in the classified (other) section of this forum. It is a nicely grained forend. Check the pictures. I do not want to separate the set at this time. But you might. Add has been there a while so it is likely down a page or two. It is listed as a trap stock.

If you are handy with wood working tools it is simple to file off the schnabel fore end with a fine file then sand to approx. 220 grit and finish with an oil finish. I use Formby's Tung Oil Finish. Just choose the sheen that matches the existing finish and follow the directions on the can. It's a simple project and you will probably enjoy it and the plus is that you will not have spent any money except the cost of a can of finish.

Acquired taste. Somewhere along the line I acquired it. I think it is really elegant.

Or as Bruce Buck calls it "The Hapsburg Lip". A part of the Hapsburg Jaw features. I think that is a very apt name for it.

Lots of advice here for folks to be cutting and/or sanding on their gun themselves. I know a lot of people, thousands, but probably fewer than five non-professionals who I would let do that to my gun. None of those folks are me. I know some people can do this sort of thing well, but they are, in my opinion, not nearly as common as SGW participants like to think. Let me put it another way: would you want to hire a pro to do the job if you knew it would be his first time doing any wood work. The vast majority of the people reading this advice fall into that category.

I see fore ends all the time on eBay in various shapes and finishes. Any 682/7/6 should work with maybe minor fitting.

Bruce Buck’s review of the Rizzini BR110 led to me getting one. I appreciate his obscure and humorous reference to the forend’s protuberance (which the Rizzini also has) and agree with him on it’s appearance.
