I have a 12ga 686 Silver Essential that has 26-1/2” barrels. After shooting my Br110 28ga with 30” barrels I’m sold on longer barrels for clays.

I could trade the gun but it works well for bird hunting. How hard is it to find a second set of barrels?

Thanks - Pfeif

When figuring the expense be aware the barrels may (likely will) require hand fitting.

^^ This! Enjoy the gun, but the added barrel set is hard to cost justify. (IMO)

I have the same gun in a 686 Black Onyx. I like it, but don't use it too often.

Beretta USA is showing 12 ga, 30 inch barrels for 68 series guns at $1300. They are also offering 40% off on orders over $500 at the moment. That is over $500 off retail. That 500 would easily cover the cost of fitting. Obviously other options exist, but if you really want this, and have the money, it’s reachable at under the retail price of the barrel alone.

The cost of the barrels ($1300), fitting ($200) and shipping both ways ($125) will be more than the value of the gun which is about $900-1000. Sell the gun as is and put the money towards a long barrel gun. Even with the discounted barrels. A 2 barrel set 686e isn't something in high demand.

Of course, OP can sell his shorter barrels if he wants. Not saying he will get a lot, but every little bit helps.

I don’t disagree with you, but shipping the gun may not be necessary. Depending on location, a local smith could be appropriate.

You are right though. Selling the existing gun and buying the desired gun is the clearly superior solution. Probably by 1000 bucks more or less.

Hmmm - I have $600 in the 686 Silver Essential and now $1000 in the new barrel (with 6 chokes) My local smith says $50 max to fit. I then have a two barrel set for $1650. If I can get $400 for the short barrels I’m at $1250.

Where can I trade this complete gun and only spend $1250 out of pocket for a nearly new 686 with new 30” Optima HP Chokes? Or save another $1000 bucks?

My bad. My estimate on your gun was off, I priced a 686 e sporting. Your Silver Essential field gun is worth about $500.00 at 90% according to the blue book of values. Maybe less with short barrels. Makes putting the new barrels on less economical. Sell your gun a buy a used 686 sporting with 30-32 inch barrels.

Where can I find one for $1250 difference? I’m not finding any.

Beretta has as strict policy that dealers must advertise MSRP. They can be had for less. You must call for best pricing. Scroll down this link. https://www.joeletchenguns.com/new-guns ... 1-sporting

MSRP is $2350 Beretta's MAP (Minimum Advertised price) is $1998 and you see them advertised for exactly that most places. The Local Scheels is the same and won't budge at all on a trade. This is especially true when they cannot get stock.

Most dealers don't want trades. And if they take one you'll be lucky to get 50% of low book. If they give you more they just make it up on the other end. Just like buying a car or truck. And besides be patient and buy pre owned. The 686 SP1 is a starter gun for most people.

Take that BR110 bird hunting next time you go. Might forget all about the 12ga!

If you got a set of barrels for $800 that is a great deal.
