Hi, I need advise from the experts.

Bought last summer SP1 32'' new
cleaned the receiver with rem action cleaner and lubed
shot 1000 rounds without problem during summer and fall

yesterday, winter time 20 F, shot 2 rounds on a station of 5 stand then I could not
cannot open the gun
tried to switch the barrel selector, it stopped between 1 and 2 barrel, finally went to 1 and 2
then I could move the lever to open the gun.

went back home, rem action cleaner, air pressure, then break free and air ......
everything seems ok in the action, dry fired top barrel bumped the gun and the second shot
every thing seems ok, do the opposite....

Any idea what had happen?
hope it will not happen again.

I do not like cleaning an O/U with brake cleaner or Rem action cleaner. I suspect the problem is that you cleaned lubrication out of an area that needs it and then did not get enough oil or lubrication back into the area. My experience is that it is very likely to happen again too if you repeated the same process. I prefer a wet soak in something like diesel fuel. And a really through oiling followed by blowing out the excess oil. You are just going to have to find the stickey spot and fix it with lubrication. And if you do not it may gaul.

Did you pull the stock off? wasn't sure from your "cleaned the receiver" statement.

Yes, I took the stock off.
First time that I cleaned it when new:
rem action cleaner all around, blew out the excess, synthetic oil all around, blew out with air

This time for cleaning after 1000 rounds did the same but use Break Free as lubricant.

Why it does it after 1000 rounds, the only factor is cold 20 Fahrenheit?

I use Mineral Spirits to soak the receiver in then blow dry then a VERY LIGHT spray of a CLP type of spray lube and blow dry that. The Mineral Sprits will clean all the gunk without stripping the metal down like brake cleaner etc-etc.

So sounds what you're using won't let your SP function in that cold of weather.

what in the action can block the top lever of opening?

I’m guessing that the inertia block is getting stuck “in the middle” and locking things up. When you push the selector button side to side, it slides a pawl that engages the inertia block. If there is anything gumming the inertia block up it doesn’t move properly and you have to manually move it with the safety/barrel selector. (Think about dry firing without tapping the butt on the ground:fire one barrel,engage safety, move selector to pother side, disengage safety and fire 2nd barrel.) It mechanically overrides the inertia block.

Here is the update:

so I cleaned again, lube lightly with BF.

I shot 175 rounds . Shot in cold weather. No more problem.

Got the feeling that it was related to the inertia block not moving completely smoothly.
It seems also that the barrel selector is moving more easily and more clearly to one dot to 2 dots.

Are you left handed?
Happened to my buddy. Lefty shooter tend to push barrel selector to right a bit. Selector is in the middle and break won't open.
Right shooter will tend to push the selector toward the left, where the selector is anyway ( lower)
