Does anybody have any opinions on the new 2020 update of the 687 Silver Pigeon III? I'd like to get one in my hands to see if it would fit my pheasant hunting needs and some work at clays.

The 687 series will out last the new 690 series by a long shot. The email best band for your $$ is the Joel Etchen series 687s. Great wood , proven solid action etc.Mike

I have looked at the Etchen guns. They are beautiful! They are quoted as being a little heavier for a hunting gun though. Also, the 2020 model has the newer Optima HP barrels and chokes which is nice.

I have no idea about the 687 SP3. But..my new 686 has the new Optima HP barrels and the extremely long forcing cones and the no mid rib barrels and the high polish finish and a decent width rib and it is all good. I like it. It replaced a mobile choked SP1 with the wide rib. I am glad I made the change.

I call BS on this, the 690 series is built on a great platform and will last just as long as any 680 series.

Yes the Joel Etchen signature series is a great gun and a great package, if you want a simple over and under for hunting that is elegant and nice, the 690 series fits that bill perfectly.

If you want a over and under for sporting, yes the 680 series is once again a great platform, if you want something a little newer in the design then the 690 series is where to look. I've got over 5500 rounds through a less then 2 year old 692 sporting, not a single problem, my other shooting buddy has a 690 sporting black over 10,000 rounds through his about 16 months of ownership, once again not a single problem.

Also the OP asked about a hunting gun.
Per Beretta's Website.

693: Strongest Hunting Over-Under in a Beautiful Package
The 693 over-under hunting shotgun blends the best of Beretta's legendary 686/687 series with a few structural and cosmetic innovations.

It's statements like yours that ruins products due to internet hyper BS.

I think the new SP3 will sell quite well. A buddy of mine is going to look at them at the Dallas Gallery this weekend, he wants a new 20ga for preserve upland hunts. It would be the first gun I'd go look at if I were in the market for a new Field O/U.

Let me know if he has any luck finding one.

Buddy went this past week to look and they said that they won't be getting them in until late December. He ended up buying a SPV.

I kind of figured this would be a next year purchase. Thanks for the update.

No problem. I am content with my SPV 20ga and SP1 28ga. I would like to add a nice 12ga but I am not sure which grade 686/7 will get the nod for that gun.

I had a SP3 687 all around and I would have guessed the weight in the 8 pound range. I actually thought it too light to shoot 100 rounds of clays in a day. Definitely lighter than my Browning CX.

your browning CX is designed for clays, hunting guns are designed to be light and carried alot and shot very little, a clays gun is designed to be heavy, carried very little and shot a ton, huge difference when it comes to the weights and overall design approach.
