The 500B was built on the 500A frame.
Thank you,
bearman49709, you are correct.

The Mossberg 500 B was indeed built on a 12 ga frame... IIRC they stopped offering the 500 in 16 gauge about 1978 or so.

I owned a Mossberg 500B for awhile, as stated earlier it is on a 12 gauge frame.
That would make the Mossberg 500B receiver:
16 gauge Height - 2.465" [62.611 mm] Width - 1.403" [35.636 mm]

... Would someone with calipers and a Mossberg 500C and a Mossberg 500A please measure the widths of the receivers?

Here are the numbers I got when I measured a couple of my 500s...
12 gauge Height - 2.465" [62.611 mm] Width - 1.403" [35.636 mm]
20 gauge Height - 2.403" [61.036 mm] Width - 1.302" [33.071 mm]
The Mossberg 500B 16 gauge was first shown in the 1963 Mossberg Shotguns - Rifles catalog and is in the 1974 catalog and 1974 advertisements. It weighed 6.5 pounds. Sweet! It may have been last mentioned in Gun Digest in 1976. It seems to have been discontinued about 1976-1978, but I do not have those Mossberg catalogs.

When was the last time Mossberg made a 16 gauge model 500?

The last year I can find a mention of the 16 gauge 500 in Gun Digest is 1976. That might be off by a year or so either way and doesn't count any one off reissues.

I do believe it was about 1976-77, Model 500B.
