Sporting Classics Daily updated their online newsletter today and mentioned a $2500 Grade M37... my interest was piqued. I'll let all of you who don't get the newsletter see it for yourself https://sportingclassicsdaily.com/the-i ... 6fbc411be1

In case it won't open, here is the link to the page of the seller (Sportsman's Legacy) http://sportsmanslegacy.com/firearm/ith ... y-respect/

What a stunner!

At first I thought it was somehow currently on offer for $2500 ;-) Got my blood running!

Wow.

Some eye candy there. Interesting history. That gun did some traveling!!

The recoil pad was added much later. Also looks like the grip cap has shrunk a little over the years?

Love the large photos they provided and the detail they show.

The last time I remember any "Dollar" grade 37's selling they were selling in the 15K range.

Thanks for sharing the link. Great stuff.

It is not the gun pictured as the $2500 Grade in the 1957, 1959-60 and 1960 Ithaca Gun Co. Inc. catalogs. That gun has fewer gold inlays, but much better/finer scroll. The gun pictured as the $2500 Grade in the 1963 Ithaca Gun Co., Inc. catalog has this style engraving but different wood. It appears this gun, with a butt plate, is the one pictured on the back cover of the 1966 and 1967 catalogs as the $3000 Grade and the 1968 catalog without text.

That's what I plan to do when I buy this one!

I was shocked by the price at $27,500. I guess you can ask whatever you want to. I think it's a $12k - $15K gun max.

The full sidelock R.G. Owen 20-gauge they have for that money looks like a much better gun to me.

Well, you're right, Walt. "Not an Ithaca" But I will say that I have handled a couple of R.G Owen rifles over the years - both custom 1903's, and his work is magnificent. Equal to, if not better, than Griffin & Howe!

Hello Al, I don't doubt that the Owen shotguns (and rifles) are of the highest level. It is just that if you are into Ithaca collecting, other fine guns are irrelevant. Apples vs. oranges :D
