Question about Ithaca model 87 Deerslayer.

I have a chance to acquire a model 87, 20ga with rifled barrel. Do any members have pictures of what it should look like? My main interest is the recoil butt plate. I only saw pictures and it has a black rubber butt plate with a white spacer. Gun is marked model 87. Thanks.

Recoil pad or hard butt plate?

If it's a recoil pad check the markings on the pad. Might say "Supreme" or have a Ithaca logo on it.

Also check it, those pads have been known to petrify over time.

There are 3 model of Deerslayer guns. 1 as originally introduced smooth bore detachable barrel, 2. detachable rifled barrel and 3 rifled nondetachable barrel. Heavy fluted?? barrel. This model is often referred as the Deerslayer 3 iirc.

They made the Model 87 with either a black rubber butt pad only or a black rubber butt pad with the white spacer. I have an Ithaca 1992 brochure for the Model 87 Deerslayer II that shows variations of the Model 87 with one of these two butt pads.
