My search was negative, so I am asking an old question. What is the correct size for the square headed Ithaca pump stock bolt? I have a 37 pump gun that the bolt won't budge with a screw driver. Thanks.

depends on the year. try a 7/16 12 point (standard) socket. It is a square head bolt, has 4 corners, so it will divide evenly into 12. also the "star" head sockets, if you look at them, they actually have 8 points. if you have one of them, it might work even better
some of the earlier ones (that I ran into) took a 3/8's. but I don't know how common that was, or if I just got an aberattion

It is a 1954 mod 37. Looks to be same size as my 1971. I'll get both sizes.

A 3/8" drive extension the female end fits perfect. Just use a small crescent or end wrench on the male end and your in business.

Dear Ohio Mike - I signed up here just to tell you thank you! for the 3/8" drive extension solution - it's brilliant! My 1951 M37 stock bolt head is 3/8" square, and although my 3/8" blade x 9" Craftsman screwdriver will work well, and even has enough purchase for a Crescent wrench, I like the idea of the 3/8" drive extension female socket much better! I lived under the shadow of the orig. factory's ITHACA GUNS smokestack for 7 years back in the 1970s. Regards, Baykal
