Any reason I shouldn't remove the pistol grip & slim down the forearm on my 16 ga nitro special for weight reduction ?

I don't think you'll be able to remove enough wood to see any appreciable weight reduction.

No reason but how much weight do you want to remove? My 12 gauge Nitro Special feels like a 6 pound gun. I’m surprised anyone would want to lighten one further.

I like a straight stock and guess a couple of ounces is something I don't have to swing / carry.

If you just want a straight stock, then have at it. It's your gun.

I still think the weight loss will be negligible, and unnoticeable when carrying.

I happen to have a Nitro Special butt stock off the gun . I just weighed it .11.80 oz. That's just the wood .
I don't think you will get rid of more than an oz. and you will weaken the wrist . It's not new wood, un-altered ones split especially if there is any oil soaked into the wood from the action .
